A Note from Mr. Wilkerson
Dear McKelvey Community,
First of all, I want to congratulate our 3rd, 4th & 5th grade music and strings students for their outstanding performances at this year's Spring Concerts! Great job Mrs. Stanfield and Mrs. Henderson! Thank you also to Peggy Hermes for putting together a team to help spruce up our grounds last Saturday. Everything looks great!
We are in full swing with our MAP testing. Big shout out to 4th and 5th graders for great attendance on the first days of testing! 3rd grade families, your child's MAP testing starts on Tuesday. It is important to encourage your child to do their best and to make sure that they are here on time and well rested.
Playground update: I wish I had better news, but the playground did not pass inspection, as there were too many tripping hazards. The entire surface must be replaced. We are very disappointed, as a playground is vital to a successful recess.
Finally, there are just 4 weeks of school to go. Let's finish strong! As always, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Scott Wilkerson

Mosquito awareness
As warmer temperatures return, so do mosquitos. It is important to protect your family & yourself from mosquitos as they can carry dangerous diseases. Prevention is Key! Keep in Mind the 4 D's:
Drain: Drain any standing water in your yard weekly. Mosquitos breed in water!
DEET: Apply insect repellants containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus whenever you are outside.
Dress: Wear lightweight, long-sleeved shirts & pants while outdoors. Apply insect repellant to clothing as mosquitos can bite through clothing.
Dusk/Dawn: Limit time spent outdoors during dawn or dusk as mosquitos are most active & feeding during these times.
At Home Mosquito Bite Relief:
Wash the area with soap & water - avoid scratching as it can lead to infection
Apply ice for 10 minutes to reduce swelling & redness - repeat as needed
Create a baking soda & water mixture to help with itching
Use over the counter anti-itch or antihistamine creams to relieve itching as well
Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
