Dear Families,
While December has been a month filled with holiday excitement, events, and the warmth of the season, we are looking ahead with anticipation as we enter the new year. The coming months hold so much promise, and we are eager to continue partnering with all of you to ensure our students’ continued growth and success.
Each day in our classrooms, so many exciting activities are happening to support the growth of our students, academically, socially, and emotionally. Over the past two years, we have focused on helping students improve their math fact automaticity, which was identified as an area for growth after reviewing data.
In today’s world, where children have calculators at their fingertips and AI tools are just a click away, it is still critical for students to have a solid grasp of their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. This foundation of automaticity is still very important to learning and understanding math.
To support this, last year some amazing staff members in our building launched a project to create an interactive math hallway. Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts from all of you and the support of our PTSA, we are able to continue developing this project. Look for pictures of our progress in upcoming newsletters! This hallway will provide a quick and easy way for students to practice facts while simply walking through the hallway or waiting to use the restroom.
As parents, one key way you can continue to support your child’s math growth is by practicing math facts at home. Just like reading, the more children practice, the quicker they gain fluency and automaticity. This ultimately frees up their focus to dive deeper into understanding why math strategies work and how to apply them.
Thank you for all of your support!

Arrival and Dismissal
It is extremely important to us that we know exactly where every student will be dismissing at the end of each day! If you need to change your child's dismissal plan for a day, please write a note and send it in with your child to school. If your dismissal plan needs to change after the school day starts, please call the main office at 716-646-3280, option 1 to speak to one of our secretaries and, ALSO, send an email to jcarrig@hcsdk12.org AND mmurray@hcsdk12.org, indicating the change. PLEASE MAKE ANY DISMISSAL CHANGES BEFORE 1:00PM. This allows us enough time to make sure that the teacher is in the classroom and receives the dismissal change before the end of the school day.
