Hello Little Raider Families!
We have started the 2nd semester off with a great start at SES! Recently, Pre-K through 2nd grade came to visit me in the Raiders Relax Room for a lesson and stations. In January, Pre-K and Kindergarten classes came to the Raiders Relax room to review ways that we can “Settle our Snow” or self-regulate. The students have learned from the beginning of the year that they should Stop, Think, Settle Their Glitter (Snow in the winter) and then Act when their emotions feel too big to handle.
First and second grade classes had lessons on Kindness in the Raiders Relax Room. We read and did activities over Nobody Hugs a Cactus, by Carter Goodrich. It is a wonderful story about how kindness wins in the end. It also discusses how our actions and attitudes can affect our friendships. Second grade and I read the book Hey Little Ant, by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. The students did an activity on seeing things from others perspectives. If you were wondering where the cactus keychain or black glasses came from…these were the very lessons! Check out the links below to read the two great kindness stories with your kiddos at home:

During Kindness Week, Mrs. Dodson and I had a blast making Kindness Robots with our Little Raiders in the library. Mrs. Dodson received a SEF Grant for all students to be able to create and take home a domino decorated like a robot. The purpose of the lesson was to show the students that acts of kindness have a domino effect in the world. Throughout the week, students were encouraged to trade their robots when they witnessed someone being kind. Our goal was to spread kindness everywhere!
We wrapped up Kindness Week with Dennis Lee and Nana Puddin courtesy of PTA!!! He always does such a great job at reinforcing kindness when he comes to present.
Speaking of kindness…I would like to thank you all for making me feel so special during Counselor Appreciation Week. I appreciate all your support each and every day. I am so very thankful and blessed to be the Sunnyvale Elementary School Counselor.

Hello SIS Families,
I cannot believe it is already March! Our February character trait was encouraging and we celebrated Kindness Week. During Kindness Week your students learned about and practiced ways to be kind at school and at home. Your student decorated coffee sleeves for our local Starbucks and completed secret kindness missions at school. Your student also had a kindness snowball fight in the library. I am looking forward to March which brings College and Career Week and spring break!
As always, if there is anything I can do to support your student please don't hesitate to reach out.
Happy March!

Dear Raider Families,
February 17-21st was Kindness Week. We were excited to celebrate the power of kindness in our school community. Kindness Week is a time to reflect on how simple acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, not only on others but also on our own well-being.
Students were shown research that practicing kindness can reduce stress, improve mood, and build stronger relationships. In fact, studies have found that performing acts of kindness, whether small or large, can boost our own happiness and sense of well-being. When we take the time to show kindness, we create a ripple effect that can transform our school culture.
Activities for Kindness Week:
Throughout the week, various activities were designed to inspire kindness, empathy, and connection:
Kindness Tree: After studying the science behind kindness, we created a Heart Tree. Students pledged to spread kindness and respect to everyone around them. The tree is displayed in the school to remind us all of our commitment to making kindness a daily practice.
Brew Crew/Coffee Sleeves: Students created special "kindness" messages for teachers on coffee sleeves. Our Lifeskills "Brew Crew" delivered and are still currently delivering these messages to staff. The gift that keeps on giving!
Thank you to our school community for embracing Kindness Week with enthusiasm and heart. Together, we can make kindness the norm.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Medina

Raider Families,
This semester has gotten off to a great start!
In January, we met with every English class for transcript review and course registration. It's always such an exciting time to meet with students and plan for their futures! Remember, the last day to request a course change is March 28th.
In February we celebrated Kindness Week across campus. We made friendship bracelets, wrote kind notes, and connected with others using intentional kindness. It was a fun week full of smiles and new friendships.
This week we hope you will join us as we celebrate College & Career Week. We know our Raiders are future ready, and look forward to conversations encouraging each of their unique plans as we get closer to graduation.
Spring break is coming soon! We hope you are able to spend some time with your high school student and soak in every memory as this year comes closer to ending.
As always, we are here to support you and your Raider and look forward to working with you!
