BMS Media News Update

6th and 7th grade students have been enjoying Thursday Lunch Bunch in the media center. This is a time where you may provide an incentive to your students. Each teacher received 3 passes. Please utilize them! Ms. Crooms has even joined in on the fun!

Thank you to the 6th grade team for encouraging your students to bring their Grandparent to this event hosted by the media center on September 6, 2019. Grand parents and their grandchildren enjoyed the food, reading together and also created a bookmark together.

To help with the preparation of our Reading Bowl Team, Ms. Porter will challenge students in a Book Battle on October 11, 2019 @ 1:00pm. If you have a minute, stop in the media center. This is an event you WON'T want to Miss!!!

Class Pass

Thanks to a partnership with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, all Atlanta Public School students are patrons of the public library! Click here: http://www.afpls.org/class

1. There is no card involved. Students use their APS username and password.

2. There are no late fees.

3. If students lose a book, the fee is a writing assignment.

Class Pass allows the following checkouts:

Print checkouts:

50 books, 10 CDs, 5 DVDs

Digital checkouts:

Hoopla - 10 downloads per month

Overdrive - 10 items every 30 days

Axis 360 - 5 titles per month

Last year, APS announced that it is raising the bar for reading District wide! Students are challenged with reading at least 20 minutes per day for 5 days a week. The ultimate goal is for APS to collectively read 2 million minutes. Our community, parents and even staff can help earn these reading minutes.

I have created a video that I have placed in google classroom for students. This video outlines the program, how students log in and the reading badges they can earn. The code is below. Please ensure that you speak with your teammates to decide if students will view this video in one particular class, or if everyone will be responsible for showing their own homeroom the video.

We were awarded a grant to create a Makerspace in the Media Center. Starting in soon, once a month, your students will be allowed to come to the media center to create, explore and have fun! You may use this as an incentive for students. A schedule and passes are forthcoming with further instructions.
