Hello Families -
It was so wonderful to have families and students back in the building on Wednesday at Back to School Night. I love hearing about your adventures and memories from the summer and look forward to reconnecting with all students in the coming weeks!
As your child transitions back to school, it’s not uncommon for them to come home exhausted and wanting time and space to decompress. Think about ways to give your child that space and build it into your routine. After giving kids that time to decompress, I recommend thinking about different ways to discuss your child’s day beyond “how was school?” Below are a few prompts to help get your child talking about their day.
Did your teacher say anything funny today?
Who did you spend time with during recess?
What was your favorite moment of the day?
Did you have any challenges or tough moments?
What was something new you tried today?
What are you looking forward to at school tomorrow?
I missed you today! Do you want to know what I did while you were at school?
I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.
Sincerely,
Ashley Imperiale, Principal
Your son/daughter will be participating in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in math and reading between 9/9 and 9/20. MAP is an online assessment that Franklin teachers and other professional staff use to determine your child’s achievement levels, academic growth, and other information that can help to improve teaching and learning. The full MAP assessment will be administered again in January and May of this school year so achievement and growth can be monitored over time.
When working with assessment results, it is important to interpret scores appropriately and to not place too much emphasis on any one score. Teachers use the results from MAP along with the results of classroom performance (assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, observations) as well as the results of other external assessments to determine a student’s academic progress.
The MAP assessments are important for several reasons:
The results provide teachers and families with a report measuring a student’s achievement and growth.
It is used along with a series of other information (quality of classroom work, classroom assessments, observations, and projects, etc) to monitor your child’s progress.
The results can be tracked over several years.
It is important that your child come to school rested and ready to fully participate in the assessment. Please encourage your child to:
Get enough sleep.
Eat a good breakfast.
Keep a positive attitude.
Listen carefully and follow directions.
Do his/her best
Though the MAP assessments are important, it is only one measure of your child’s progress in school. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teachers and other school staff to get a full picture of your child’s school success. Additional general information about MAP is available at www.nwea.org.
24-25 SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST
The 2024-2025 School Supply List may be found here. Supplies should be brought to school on Wednesday, August 28th during the Open House from 5:30-7:00p.m.
PARENT DROP OFF / PARENT PICK UP
Last week you received an email regarding our Parent Drop Off/Pick Up procedures, which you may also access here.
For Parent Pick Up at the end of the day, each family is assigned an individual pick up number. When arriving in the parent pick up area, please have that number clearly visible to our staff on the passenger side of your vehicle. Your students will then be released from their classrooms to be dismissed to meet you by our gym parent pickup line. Letters and a printed sheet with your parent pickup number will be handed out in your student's classroom on Back to School night.
ATTENTION 4K & 5K FAMILIES
4K & Kindergarten students will be picked up and dropped off with other elementary students at a designated BUSstop. A parent or designee must assume responsibility for the child at the stop when dropped off.
If parents would like to designate a person other than themselves, they can send an email to heidi.engel@franklin.k12.wi.us
In regards to same day notification (this should only be done for emergencies), please call GoRiteway Busing at 414-571-9001 so they can pass along the information to the bus driver.
MEDICATION FOR THE 24/25 SCHOOL YEAR
If your child will require ANY (over the counter or prescription) medication for the upcoming school year, please fill out the Request to Administer Medication form found on our district website and have it signed by your healthcare provider.
This form can either be:
scanned and emailed to nurses@franklin.k12.wi.us
This form can be turned into your school's main office.
In addition, all medication can be dropped off at school in its original container.
SNACKS & CLASSROOM BASED FOOD
Please remember to pack a snack each day for your child. Snacks allowed must follow the District Wellness Policy, meaning that your child may choose to bring in fruits, vegetables, cheese, yogurt, meat, pretzels, popcorn, and goldfish crackers unless nursing services and/or building administrator discretion warrants further limitations.
Additionally, It is highly suggested that children wanting to celebrate their birthdays and holidays do so with non-food items. Please consider sending non-food items to school such as pencils, stickers, slinky, trading cards, donating a book to your child’s classroom library, or talking to your child’s teacher about ideas you might have to make your child feel special.
Thank you for helping us to prevent unfavorable medical outcomes for students with food allergies and other chronic illnesses impacted by food consumption.
