JSE family and friends,

Thank you for attending the grades 2-5 Meet the Teacher night! I appreciate our PTO coming in and offering delicious ice cream treats and our teachers for sharing great information with us.

Our school offers a lot of opportunities for our students and families to get involved. Our students in 4th and 5th grade have been offered opportunities to join JSE Choir or Robotics. We have our first PTO meeting and giveback coming up early September, as well as our next family event. If you are interested in choir, please reach out to Mrs. Willis. If you have robotics questions, please reach out to Mr. Smith. And for all of our other great events, read on- you'll find it below.

Watch Kid President's Pep Talk with your family and help our kids be their personal best and have respect for themselves and others.

Each month I host a principal's challenge that students can do with their families. Students who turn in the challenge are put into a drawing for each grade level to join me as Junior Principal for a Day.

Below is a peak at September's challenge. Flyers will go home in Thursday folders this week. This month's challenge compliments our Books and Brownies event on Thursday, September 12. Please complete, color, and be sure your child's name and teacher are included. Entries are due on Friday, September 20.

With the addition of our preschool program, we will need to adjust some car rider procedures and need your help in supporting this so we can get everyone in and out on time.

AM Procedures:

K-5 car riders will go to the back lot like normal. Breakfast is served at 8:30 and we open the doors then to let students in. Those that are not eating, wait in the hall area until 8:40 when we let everyone in.

Preschool families will pull up to the main lot. Please go all the way around the curve to Door L by the playground. We will be brining students in no earlier than 8:10. Mrs. Morton and our preschool teachers will be there to help students get in and walk them to the class.

Bus riders will be in the main lot and dismissed at 8:30 for breakfast and 8:40 for the school day.

Walkers/Bikers will enter the main entrance. They can arrive at 8:30 for breakfast or 8:40 for the school day.

PM Procedures:

Preschool leaves at 2:45pm and elementary leaves at 3:15pm.

Preschool families will come up to the main lot by Door L all the way to playground. Since every preschool is a car rider, elementary parents may not get in line until 3:00pm.

K-1 car riders and older siblings will go to the back lot like normal. Please do not wait back here until 2:45pm. If you arrive earlier, we will ask you to leave as the car line blocks our doorways for deliveries and emergencies.

2-5 car riders will leave at Door L like normal. The only change is you may not be in line before 3:00pm. We will ask you to get out of line so we can get all preschoolers out first.

Bus riders will be in the main lot and dismissed as they arrive.

Walkers/Bikers will leave through the main entrance with our walker aide. They must walk bikes at school grounds and across the street, then they may ride their bikes.

Preschool Times

AM Class: 8:15-11:00am

PM Class: 12:00-2:45pm

Thank you so much for helping with the new times for waiting in line and getting our littlest Bearcats in and out safely. We appreciate your cooperation! Be on the lookout the first day of school for your car rider sign from Mrs. Morton if you take that option.

Looking to be a part of the school? Our PTO is always seeking volunteers. Some things may be in person at school, and some may be things you do at home. Check out this flyer and get connected with a wonderful group that really helps connect our school and families!

Our PTO meetings will be the first Tuesday of the month starting in September. Our meetings will now be at 3:30pm (right after school) rather than 6pm and end no later than 4:30pm. Other committee meetings may take place in the evening as needed.

We have always had a wonderful PTO, and many of our great parents graduated up to the middle school this year. We are in need of a treasurer and secretary if you are interested. Stop by and say hello to our PTO President Saide and PTO Vice President Dawn at the back to school nights for more information.

You can access Mealtime to upload funds or drop off money to the JSE office. Checks need to be made out to John Simatovich Elementary School and in the memo put your child(ren)'s names.

Please complete the JSE Healthy Snack Extras form for your children. This helps our kitchen know who is and is not allowed to get extras or snacks. Thank you!

Students need to have funds in their lunch account. You can set up a Mealtime account https://www.mymealtime.com/ with your child's 100 or 200 number. You can find this number on Harmony. It is not the Student ID number, but their account number. If you need assistance just call the office or email Mrs. Minton at cminton@union.k12.in.us and she can send it to you for easy copy and paste.
