Principal's Message
Dear Families,
As we transition into the crisp autumn months, we're also nearing the end of the first quarter of the school year. It's been a wonderful time of growth and learning for our students.
Our Student Council Association (SCA) candidates decorated our hallways with campaign posters and delivered outstanding and inspiring speeches to their peers. Their bravery and confidence are a testament to their character. We're proud of all of our candidates and encourage continued involvement in school leadership. Go Eagles!
Get ready to break out the costumes and kick up your heels at our annual PTO Hoedown on October 25th! This fun-filled event is a great opportunity to connect with other families in our community. Be on the lookout for additional details and opportunities for you to volunteer for one of our favorite events of the year!
As we continue to navigate the school year, let's maintain a positive mindset. Our Eagle’s have been working hard to hit the pause button and take a breath before acting. Each morning we remind one another to stop and think before you speak or act. Ask yourself, "Is this hurtful or helpful?" Always choose helpful! Discuss with your child ways they can be helpful at school, at home, and in our community. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
We look forward to a wonderful fall season filled with learning, growth, and community.
Wishing you well,
Ms. Black and Mrs. Storrs
Caring School Community
Having meaningful conversations with your child builds trust and self-confidence while enhancing their social development. Some children love to talk about their school days, while others are quiet and could be unsure of where to start.

- What was the best thing that happened at school today?
- What was the worst thing that happened at school today?

- Tell me something that made you laugh today.
- What was the book about that your teacher read?
- Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw/showed?
- If you had a choice, who would you like to sit by in class? Who would you not want to sit by in class? Why?

Instructional Highlights
Students have been working through new standards of learning during Quarter 1 for both Math and Reading and teachers have been working diligently to learn these new standards and deliver aligned instruction.
HMH Into Reading is considered our High-Quality Instructional Material (HQIM) in reading. Students are engaging in activities connected to phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing.
In Math, students are utilizing resources from Go Math! and Math Forward to support the new standards of learning. The scope and sequence that Frederick County Public Schools is utilizing have standards taught for proficiency, standards to be explored, and standards for targeted review. This means that standards will be introduced, taught, and reviewed throughout the instructional year.
