The Lion's Share Newsletter
December Edition
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Welcome to the December edition of Grant's newsletter, The Lion's Share! I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy time with friends and family. It's hard to believe that we are starting the last month of 2018!
I would like to sincerely thank all of our families for ensuring your student is here and on time each and every day. If you have been in recently, you may have seen our attendance chart up in the hallway as you enter the school. We have been closely tracking our attendance rates. Our goal is to have at least an average of 95% of students here at school every day. We hit that mark last month and hope to keep that trend going! We have also been recognizing classrooms that have the best attendance rate! Mrs. Campbell's 3rd graders earned a pizza party for their attendance. Also, Mrs. Lamson's class recently won a popcorn party for their attendance! Keep up the great work!
When you hear the word "referral" in a school setting, it typically has a negative connotation to it. Just last month, we brought a new type of referral system to publicly recognize our students that are going above and beyond our R.O.A.R. behavior! These referrals are called "Roaring Good Things." When a student receives a Roaring Good Thing, they are nominated by a Grant staff member. Then Mr. Ford or myself will review the referral. We then recognize the student during morning announcements for everyone to hear. The student receiving the Roaring Good Thing then comes straight to the office for a big congratulations and then helps to put up their referral on the board in the front of the building. I'd like to recognize the following students for receiving a Roaring Good Thing:
Zoee Smith
Edgar Morales
Delilah Melton
Niklas Sanderson
DeShaun Marable
Syrai Rigsby
I would like to send out another reminder that if you would like to volunteer here in the building or on a field trip, you will need to stop by the office and fill out a volunteer form. You will have to have a form on file in order to attend field trips. We do have some field trips coming up quickly and would love for you to attend! Please have forms submitted at least a week prior to the field trip.
Thank you to those of you that wrote to me in regards to the communication you have been receiving from Peachjar. Most of the responses stated that there was too much communication coming from Peachjar that wasn't pertinent to Grant Elementary. I have looked into how we can best manage the communication coming from Peachjar. However, since the communication, usually in the form of flyers, comes from the district, the only way is for you manage the amount of content you receive by creating an account with Peachjar. If you're ever in need of one of the flyers, please be sure to visit the Grant website and click on the Peachjar icon, which houses all of the flyers sent. Again, thank you for your feedback. I always welcome it and appreciate it!
Finally, please be sure to check out the Lost & Found prior to winter break. All items that are left in the Lost & Found will be donated during break.
I hope that December ends up being a great month for you and your family! Winter break will take place starting Thursday, December 20th and will run through Friday, January 4th. We will see our students back in the new year on Monday, January 7th.
I appreciate you taking the time to read through our newsletter! If there is something you would ever like to hear about or some new type of content in the newsletter, please let me know!
Have a great one and thanks for reading,
Ryan Miller
