February 3, 2025
National Career and Technical Education Month
Hello Cougars,
February is National Career and Technical Education Month. CTE courses are essential for students and our future because they provide practical skills, hands-on training, real-world experience, and career readiness. At Jarrell ISD, we are incredibly proud of our CTE courses. Last month, the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) named Jarrell ISD a District of Distinction for our CTE program.
Additionally, Governor Greg Abbot celebrated Raya Rabold in his February 2, 2025, State of the State Address. She graduated from Jarrell High School in 2024. At JHS, she earned her Industry Based Certification (IBC) in welding. Her work has been featured on the TV show Yellowstone. She's working toward becoming a welding inspector. It's a job that pays $85,000 a year. Raya is only 18. She's an example of how beneficial the hands-on CTE programs are for students.
Below are some of the CTE courses Jarrell ISD offers:
Aerospace Engineering
Agriculture
Animal Science
Business and Finance
Culinary
Digital Communications
Engineering
Graphic Design
Health Science
Information Technology
Robotics
Sports Marketing
Welding
When students take these courses, they can earn Industry-Based Certifications (IBC) that show their skills and knowledge in specific fields. Like Raya Rabold, students with skilled trades secure well-paying jobs straight out of high school or after further specialized training.
As industries evolve, CTE ensures students are prepared for emerging job markets, reducing skills gaps and boosting economic growth. By investing in CTE, we empower students to succeed in fulfilling careers while strengthening our communities and future economy.
