A FEW OF OUR STAFF SPREADING SOME HOLIDAY CHEER
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Dear Tukes Valley Primary Families,
We are looking forward to having each of you back here in a few short days. We hope you all had a restorative holiday break and enjoyed time with your loved ones. Our first week back will be pretty busy with reconnecting with our school community, going over school-wide expectations, and starting our winter assessments. We look forward to more learning, fun, and shared experiences in the new year!

SCHOOL LEVY INFORMATION
Battle Ground Public Schools’ board of directors has placed a replacement education and operations levy on the special election ballot for Feb. 11, 2025. This local levy makes up approximately 13% of the district’s budget and fills the gap between funding received from the state and the actual cost of educating students. The replacement levy would fund things like student safety, instructional/support staff, class sizes, curriculum adoption, nursing and mental health support, special education, busing, sports, the arts and more. It would provide funding that impacts students in every BGPS school.
Voters approved the expiring education and operations levy in 2021 at an estimated rate of $1.99 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The actual rate in the first year was $1.97. The estimated rate for this replacement levy would be $1.95 per $1,000 of assessed value each year. More information about the replacement levy is available on the district website.

WEATHER RELATED DELAYS AND CLOSURE
WE ARE CONSIDERED A NORTH SCHOOL
It may be hard to believe, but the potential for wintry weather will soon be in the forecast. Please visit the district’s weather and emergency information page to make sure you are ready in the event of a school closure or delay. Please remember we never have an early release and a late start.
How we notify families
Automated phone calls, emails and texts: Please keep your contact information updated in Skyward (Family Access) or contact your school office. On weather days, calls may begin going out as early as 5:30 a.m. to families who have not opted out.
Information line: 360-885-5343 (updated by 6 a.m. on weather impacted days).
Flash Alert: Sign up for email alerts or download the mobile app for updates about emergency and non-emergency issues. You must re-subscribe every year.
TV and radio stations, local newspapers may share information at their discretion.
Please download and print our weather guide for quick access to weather-related information and make sure you know if your child’s school is in the north or south part of the district.
BUS TIMES AND WEATHER RELATED DELAYS
Expect your bus to be at the at the delayed time. As an example if there is a two hour late start and the bus is normally at the stop at 8:30 then it will be 10:30. Please pay attention to the delay time communicated by the district.
If snow routes are in effect in the morning, those same buses will be on snow routes in the afternoon, too, regardless of the weather by that time. For snow routes, if your bus stop is different from your regular stop, then a guardian must meet their child at the snow route stop at the end of the day or the student will be transported back to school.

MESSAGE FROM NURSE KRISTINE
Keep at home any ill child or child with the following:
Fever - over 100.4 F, especially if other symptoms are apparent. Your child should be free of fever for 24 hours (without the aid of Tylenol/Ibuprofen or other fever reducers) before returning to school.
Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea – Students should not return to school until 24 hours after the last time they vomited or had diarrhea.
Rash – –DO NOT send a child with a rash to school until approval by your licensed healthcare provider (provide documentation to school) or the rash has been resolved – especially with additional symptoms like itching, fever or appearing ill. Rashes may cover the entire body or be in only one area, and are most contagious in the early stages.
Known communicable disease - should not be sent to school without the specific approval of your doctor. Chickenpox (exclude students from school until all lesions have crusted). Impetigo (exclude until under treatment or unless a licensed health care provider suggests it). Strep (exclude until under treatment for 24 hours). Ringworm (exclude until treatment has been started).
Eye drainage – may indicate conjunctivitis (a common infectious disease of the eyes) caused by several types of bacteria and viruses. Keep students home from school and see a licensed health care provider if there is white or yellow drainage from the eye(s), altered vision, and/or redness of the eyelid or skin surrounding the eye.
If a child becomes ill or seriously injured at school, the parent/guardian is notified to pick up the child. If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, an emergency contact will be called. Therefore, please make sure that throughout the school year you provide the school with current work, home, and emergency telephone numbers. If your student goes home sick, please remember to call or email to excuse your student's absence.
If you have any questions/concerns about your child’s health, please contact your licensed health care provider.
Here are some tips to keep you and your child healthy to prevent illness:
Wash hands frequently (before eating/after using the bathroom/after sneezing/coughing into your hands) with soap & warm water for 20 seconds
Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue when you cough/sneeze OR sneeze into your upper sleeve
If soap & water are not available, use an alcohol based hand cleaner
Keep your bodies clean as well as brush your teeth
Get plenty of rest each night
Eat a variety of healthy foods including fruits and vegetables
Drink water (instead of sugary or carbonated choices)
