🆕What's New🆕
Let's Celebrate D123🥳
Yesterday was a very special day in District 123, we celebrated our fabulous district on 1/23 at 1:23pm with an all district dance party for 123 seconds! Students filled the hallways wearing their school spirit swag and every staff member in the district rocked the same shirt to show how proud we are to be a part of this wonderful D123 family. It was a great day at Covington, make sure to ask your children all about it.
Math Night✖️➗➖➕
Dominoes, dice, and pattern blocks! It's Covington's Family Math Night! Come join us for a fun evening filled with creative, hands-on math activities that will get your kids to think about and make sense of numbers!
There will be 8-10 go-at-your-own pace stations to explore with three activitiey levels at each station. We'll be playing games, making projects, and discovering how much fun math can be. And since all the activities are designed around our math standards, its' a great way to reinforce the learning that goes on in the classroom. So bring the whole family and come join your friends for some fun and engaging hands-on math!!!
When: Monday, February 12th
Time: 4:30-6:00pm
Where: Covington
It is not mandatory that you RSVP, however if your family RSVP's you will be entered for a $25 Gift Card.

Morning Drop Off🚘
At 8:10 am, the Covington teachers are outside and ready to accept your children that come through the driveway. You must pull up to the teachers to let your students out.
Drivers: PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR!!!! THE TEACHERS WILL HELP UNLOAD YOUR CHILD
Getting out of your car to help unload your child is a danger to yourself and others AND slows down the process of getting our kids into school. There are plenty of teachers outside to help with this process.
At 8:35 am, the doors close PROMPTLY!!!! At this time, I ask that you park on the street and walk your child into the school if you are running late. I understand that mornings can get hectic. However, we continue to have people stop in the drop-off lane to come inside, which causes a backup of others trying to get through.
Weather Update☔
Please be careful when walking around the buildings during drop off and dismissal. The areas can be slippery. Thank you to our amazing custodial staff who are working nonstop to keep our areas safe! When the weather is colder, please dress your child in layers. They often get hot during PE, but the classrooms can still be chilly during the day. Also, please remember that during the winter months, if they temps are above 32 degrees students will go outside for recess, so please dress appropriately.
Friendship Day💛💜
We will celebrate Friendship Day on February 14th. Please have your child/children dress in red, pink, white, or purple. We will have a small classroom party. If you child would like to bring a NON-EDIBLE treat they may. Please DO NOT send food!!!!

SABERS😀
Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 utilizes systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) provide all students with timely and targeted interventions based on the results of universal screening tools in reading, math, and behavior. Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may be academically or behaviorally “at risk.”
The Illinois State Board of Education has adopted learning standards for children’s social and emotional development in addition to academic standards that already exist for each grade. All Illinois schools are responsible for teaching children how to manage their emotions, get along with others, and make good decisions.
To help assess our students' social-emotional needs, we use a district-wide social-emotional screener three times per year in grades K-8. Students whose scores fall below a specific cut-off may need targeted behavior support. Universal screening refines and strengthens our efforts to help our students succeed by allowing us to take positive and preventative measures as early as possible.
The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) focuses on the academic engagement behaviors of students. Teachers complete the SAEBRS, and the results will provide identified students with social skills interventions and support to help them engage positively in learning. As with our academic screenings, you will be notified if your student is selected for participation in an intervention program. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about your child’s participation.
Thank you for your willingness to assist Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 in building a student support system linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please do not hesitate to contact the school social worker, counselor, or your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
