Google announces that Jamboard is going away
While we were all away for Fall Break, Google announced that Jamboard will be shut down in 2024.
While we will continue to be able to use and even make new Jams until October 1, 2024, after that time, any Jams will be view-only. After December 31, 2024, the Jamboard app will no longer be available and all Jams will be deleted.
Google did provide some alternatives though, and I'll be checking them out over the next few weeks:
- Google Slides
- Google Drawing
- PearDeck*
- FigJam by Figma*
- Lucidspark by Lucid*
- Miro*
*The most important thing to consider is whether the app alternative meets student privacy considerations, so I'll also be submitting them for review on our new platform, 1EdTech Trusted Apps (available in Classlink). Until that time, consider any starred apps to be used to with a teacher account and not for student sign-in use.
A fun tip from Tony Vincent!
Looking for FREE spooky fonts to use this month? Add the fonts below in any Google Workspace file by clicking Fonts > More fonts and then searching for the font's name.
Want to use them on your personal PC or Mac, or in Canva? You can also download them from fonts.google.com to install! Search for the font's name, click it, then select "Download family."
CANVAS CORNER: Filtering by section in SpeedGrader
By default, you will see all students in all sections of a course when opening SpeedGrader to grade the assignment. But did you know that you can filter by section to see a smaller group of students?
When you open SpeedGrader, click on the dropdown next to the student name. Instead of scrolling to select another student, look for the "Showing: All Sections" message at the top of the list and hover over it to open a sidebar that will let you select an individual section.
NOTE: If you have cross-listed courses (with gifted and non-gifted, or ELL and non-ELL courses together), you won't be able to see everyone in the class period at one time. Instead, you will need to select first one section and then the other when you are done with the first section (example, 6120-2 first and then 6130-2).
