Letter from the Principal
Happy Holidays from Sundling!
As we bid farewell to 2024, we can't believe how quickly the first half of the school year is flying by! A big thank you to our incredible staff, students, and community for making it such a success.
Winter Break and Beyond
- Winter Break: Saturday, December 21st - Sunday, January 5th
- School Resumes: Monday, January 6th
- Quarter 2 Ends: Friday, January 31st
- Quarter 2 Progress Reports: Friday, January 7th (Afternoon)
A Heartfelt Thank You
We're truly amazed by the generosity of our community! Together, we filled 2+ boxes with toys for the Palatine 2024 Toys for Tots campaign. Your kindness will bring joy to many children this holiday season.
Looking Ahead to January 2025
- Review and Reset: Take this break to review your child's progress on Infinite Campus and set new goals for the second half of the year.
- School-Wide Reboot: When we return in January, we'll be refreshing our school expectations and procedures to ensure a smooth start to the new quarter.
Wishing You a Wonderful Winter Break!
We hope you have a safe, restful, and joyous winter break. We can't wait to see you all in the new year!

Sincerely,
Jason Dietz Principal
Good Habits Start with Daily Attendance!
Did you know? Daily attendance builds good habits for the future.
Tip: Create a family calendar to track school days and events. Aim for 9 or fewer absences for academic success!
Chromebook Responsibility!
District 15 provides every student with a technology learning device. We understand that unexpected challenges can arise and make it difficult. However, students are expected to:
Take Chromebooks home daily.
At home, students are expected to use their District-issued Chromebooks for learning purposes.
Students are responsible for securing and keeping the Chromebook and other District 15 technology that has been issued to them in good working order, including case and/or clamshell, and District-issued stylus.
Additionally, this includes bringing charged Chromebooks to school daily. Chargers stay at home, for this nightly charging/not brought to school where they are easily lost/damaged.
Students and their parents/guardians continue to be held accountable for the Responsible Use Contract all year.
District 15 recognizes that technology serves as a powerful tool in the classroom. With this in mind, teachers and students have access to devices that allow for content creation, collaboration, inquiry, and problem-solving.

Upcoming ACCESS Testing 2025
During the months of January and February, your child will be participating in the ACCESS 2.0 or Alternate ACCESS test for the State of Illinois as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These assessments measure the English language proficiency level of your child in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. All students who qualify for English language support are required to be administered this assessment regardless of whether or not they are currently receiving direct programming support or have refused services for the 2024-2025 school year.
The 30-minute kindergarten test and Alternate ACCESS test are given 1:1 and will be administered during a time that is least disruptive to your child’s schedule. Grades 1-8 will be administered the ACCESS 2.0 listening, reading, and writing assessments in groups, and the speaking assessment will be given either 1:1 or in a smaller group setting. For EL students with significant cognitive disabilities, the Alternate ACCESS for ELs is administered. In all cases, these assessments will be administered during times that are least disruptive to your child’s school schedule.
Additional information regarding the ACCESS test can be found at https://wida.wisc.edu/resources/what-access-ells. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at urbanskr@ccsd15.net or phone at 847-963-3136. Thank you very much for your support of this assessment which provides us with valuable data as we design instruction to help our multilingual students develop high levels of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English.
Sincerely,
Renee Urbanski
Assistant Superintendent of Multilingual Programs

https://www.ccsd15.net/our-district/departments/teaching-learning-assessment/elearning-plan
All students in grades K-8 will be bringing home devices over the upcoming Winter Break so that devices are home in the case of potential inclement weather. All devices should return to schools on Monday, January 6, 2025, after Winter Break or on the next regular in-person school day. For parents/guardians of K-2 students, please remember to return the device, case, and charger when students return to school.
Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures- Reminder
Parents who transport their students to school are asked to enter the traffic circle on the south side of the school or use the parking spots located along Smith St. directly in front of the building. Please be sure to drop off your child at curbside, ensuring that they do not have to cross through moving cars. For safety reasons, the north lot in front of the school is reserved for bus loading and unloading, bike riders and parking for staff and visitors!
Students may not enter the building prior to the 7:35 AM bell unless they are participating in jazz band or choral rehearsals, working in the Learning Resource Center (LRC), attending breakfast, have a prior written pass from a teacher, or are directed to do so by a staff member due to inclement weather. Students may not wander or loiter the hallways prior to the beginning of the school day.
