Happy Sunday!

I hope you're all enjoying the great weather as we head into late October!

I'd like to highlight in this edition of our newsletter several ways that parents can be involved in our school!

Community Advisory Partners (CAP)

Each year we get a few extra funds (in this case around $5500) to supplement our budget based on the number of students we have at Susan Nelson! We like to get input from everyone in our school community about how to spend those funds! We'd love to have a parent or two join us as we have that discussion. Are you interested? We will have several meetings throughout the year--and the first one will be in a week or two. Meetings will be in online via Zoom and start around 4:00 pm. The meetings will last only about 30 minutes! Let me know if you'd like to join us!

Safety Committee

We also are forming a school safety committee that consists of teachers, staff and parents! Our first goal at Susan H. Nelson School is to keep everybody safe--and that takes work and input about how we can make things better! Do you have any ideas? We'd love to have you be a part of our team. We'll be meeting to do two things: #1) Update our Comprehensive School Safety Plan and #2) Work on updating our emergency teams and actions each team is responsible for. Call me or send me an email if you'd like to work with us on our safety committee!

Survey

Finally, I'd really like to encourage you to take the survey that you see linked in the next section! We value you and your input and want to hear from you so that we can know how to improve! It should only take a few minutes but will be very valuable to helping to make Susan Nelson a better school!

Every year, we ask our TVUSD families to complete a brief survey. The survey, which will run from October 16th through November 3rd, assists the governing board and district as we strive to continue to provide high-quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of all our learners, and prepare students for college and career readiness.

In conclusion, the benefits of starting at a community college before transferring to a four-year university are substantial. It's an affordable, supportive, and flexible way to launch one's academic journey and achieve higher education goals without breaking the bank.
