NWMS Weekly Parent Update
October 7-11
It's a Great Day to be a Viking!
Reminders and Updates
I want to begin this week with a huge thank you to Mr. Davis and the members of the Big Serve! This team worked on various projects around our school including replacing rotten wood/railings at our Mobile Units, painting in our main building, and installing partitions in our student bathrooms. What a great upgrade and we send our heartfelt thanks!
Let's make it a great week,
Mrs. Francisco

They won 1st Place Color Guard, 1st Place Percussion, 1st Place Drum Major, 1st Place Marching, 1st Place Music, 1st Place General Effect, 1st Place in Class 5A, and Grand Champions of the entire competition with the highest score of the day! Please congratulate these outstanding musical athletes on their incredible achievement!
COVID Guidelines
Per CDC recommendations, the Guilford County Public Health Department has issued the notice below for updated COVID-19 isolation recommendations. Most specific to GCS is that the isolation period for those who get sick has been reduced to isolating at home away from others until 24 hours after symptoms improve and fever subsides without the use of medication. After isolation, the individual should continue with enhanced prevention strategies for the next five days, such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, and improving hygiene and air quality.
FCCLA Shoe Drive
BRING US YOUR SHOES! We’re collecting gently worn, used and new shoes to raise money for FCCLA. All you have to do is clean out your closet of shoes you no longer wear, that are still in good condition. Bring them to Ms. Minner's room in the morning beginning Sept. 30. All shoes will be sent to a third world country to support others in need.
GCS Choice Application Window (earlier this year)
The Fall Choice Application Season is fast approaching. Please note the information below.
Choice Application Window: October 9th – November 22nd

Student Fall Picture Information
All students who had their picture taken on Fall Picture Day brought home a flyer with their unique picture code for parents to use when ordering pictures. Lifetouch has reopened the Advance Pay feature (this provides free shipping) and this will stay on until this coming Wednesday. Here is the message from our photo rep about this Advance Pay feature and directions for how to order the photos after Wednesday:
From our Lifetouch Representative:
I have reached out and requested the advance pay to be turned back on and stay on until next Wednesday. Parents will only be able to go on the site now to advance pay and get the free shipping. No orders can be placed during this time. After Wednesday, the advance pay will be turned off and parents will be able to go back in and order photos.
Also, if a student was absent on Picture Day the makeup day for pictures is Oct. 16th. Make-up pictures will be made in the Front Commons. Students who want their picture re-taken can also have this done on Oct. 16th.
Sports Try Out Information
Boys Volleyball and Girls Soccer tryouts begin Monday, Oct. 7. Anyone trying out must have all paperwork completed and turned into Ms. Thomas in the gym by 8:30am Oct. 7. Paperwork can be turned in at any time. The correct paperwork includes a physical form completed by a physician which is current for 395 days, a current medical history form and a concussion form which is current for the school year. Paperwork can be found on the NW Middle website under athletics.
Sports Spectator Reminder
Please remind students that if they are attending a NW Middle athletic event, they should not bring footballs or other athletic equipment to play with during the game. Please also remind students to stay at the event that they came to watch, such as in the football stadium for football games.
We also want to remind all parents/visitors that the campus is tobacco-free/no vaping or smoking is allowed.
