Watch Us Soar
Sprague students engaged in a collaborative art project to kick off the school year with each student using their imagination and creativity to design a feather, which then was assembled into wings for that grade level, explained Art Teacher Allison Smith. Collaboration is one of the District 103 Portrait of a Graduate competencies.
Mrs. Smith adapted the project from street artist Kelsey Montague, who makes murals of wings. Students were also introduced to the book, "When You Need Wings," by Lita Judge. The story features a girl going to school for the first time and how she uses her imagination to help her find the strength and courage to soar into the school year.
“I felt this was a great first project since all of the students were starting a new grade level and this could be their first time meeting new students, teachers, or even a new school building,” Mrs. Smith said.
