Scott Family Newsletter
March 20th, 2025
As we approach the last quarter of the school year, we are excited about the great learning and assessments ahead. This is a crucial time for students to make gains and finish strong, and maintaining consistent routines—such as getting enough sleep and staying on schedule—will help set them up for success. To support their growth, we encourage strong attendance in the coming weeks, ensuring that students stay engaged in all academic areas and continue building on their progress.
With the excitement of warmer weather and the upcoming break, students may need extra reminders to stay focused and on task. Please take a moment to review positive behavior choices with your child, reinforcing expectations for respect, responsibility, and engagement in the classroom. We remain committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment, and we appreciate your partnership in helping students finish the school year successfully!
Ready-Tech-Go is TONIGHT 3/20 at 6pm at Scott!

HeART of Portland
The HeART of Portland is an annual visual arts exhibition representing K-12 student artwork from across Portland Public Schools. As part of the exhibition’s opening and closing celebrations, on April 16 and 27, students will participate in dance, music, and theater performances. The closing celebration on Sunday, April 27 will include performances from across the City's six school districts. Everyone can enjoy free admission as part of the Portland Art Museum's Miller Family Fee Day, from 10am-5pm.
Scott Elementary’s Community Earth Day event is happening this year on April 19th from 1-4pm
This annual event has grown over the last 4 years and brings in hundreds of our school families as well as visitors from neighboring schools and the NE Portland community at large! The event is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by Growing Gardens and the Scott PTA Green Team.
Participants will be able to give and receive items at the event itself. There will be a kids clothing swap, a seed and plant swap, a book swap and hopefully a free food table-TBD. Our team is also creating a booklet of hyper-local Mutual Aid Resources to distribute during and after the event. We are gathering materials about mutual aid programs across the city to share, and inviting participation from local orgs that would like to table as well. In addition, we will have many garden learning and exploration stations to share Growing Gardens inspired programming, live music, a baby chicken petting area, recycled art making and more!
A Note From The School Nurse
Dear Scott Community,
We are in the cold and flu season. It is important to take steps to protect ourselves and reduce the spread of illness. We recommend reminding your children about these health maintenance tips:
-Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, throughout the day.
-Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
-Cough/sneeze into the crease of the elbow
-Avoid sharing cups, water bottles, or eating utensils with others
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick
-Get plenty of rest : school-age children should get 9 to 11 hours of sleep each night
-Drink plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet to maintain optimal health
-Dress appropriately for cold, wet weather
Students should be kept at home when they are ill to help speed recovery and prevent the spread of illness/disease. Please notify your school if your student is diagnosed with a contagious disease.
Also, please keep in mind that some circumstances may require a medical release for your student to return to school. State law requires that a student remain home with:
-Temperature of 100.4 or greater until fever free for 24 hours without medication.
-New, persistent cough that interferes with school activities until cleared by a healthcare provider or cough is controlled/gone. Students with coughs are recommended to wear a well-fitting disposable mask.
-For vomiting/diarrhea, individuals can return after symptoms improving (diarrhea) or symptom free (vomiting) for 24 hours as the OHA/ODE guidelines indicate.
-Rash until cleared by a healthcare provider or the rash resolves.
-Eye redness and drainage until symptom free or cleared by a healthcare provider.
You can learn more about guidelines from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the following links:

Thank you in advance for helping keep our children healthy!
