CHIEF CHARLO HOWL NEWSLETTER
April 2024 (2nd Edition)
STEAM NIGHT
Come join us at Chief Charlo's Family STEAM NIGHT!
TOMORROW - Thursday, April 25th 6:00-7:00pm!
There will be a community mural project at STEAM night. Students will have an opportunity to add one or two textures to the mural. Students who want to will work on sections of the mural for up to one minute. Wear clothes that you’re not afraid to get dirty and destroyed as we will be working with acrylic paint. This will be a first come, first serve task. Unfortunately, there will not be enough time for every STEAM Night participant to take part in this project.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is just around the corner ... May 6-10
History
The origins of National Teacher Day are murky. Around 1944, Arkansas teacher Mattye Whyte Woodridge began corresponding with political and education leaders about the need for a national day to honor teachers. Woodbridge wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt, who in 1953 persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. The National Education Association (NEA) and its affiliates continued to observe National Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March until 1985, when the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day. Celebrated on the Tuesday of the first full week of May, the actual date varies each year. This year National Teacher Day is May 7th.
* The Chief Charlo PTO asks that you encourage your child to show their appreciation to their teacher(s), lunch staff, or even their bus driver by making them a card, writing them a letter, drawing them a picture or making some other fun creation. We have the BEST staff her at Chief Charlo. Let's show them how much we have appreciated them for all they have done for our children over this past year!! *

Looking for Chief Charlo garden-lovers
We are looking for helpers MAY 4th to join us in cleaning up the school garden and putting in the NEW ADA pathway. This new pathway will make our beautiful garden easily accessible to ALL our Chief Charlo students so they too can learn in our beautiful outdoor space.
Spring is here and garden lessons are in full swing! Planting lessons will be held on May 30th and 31st for K and 3rd grade.
Be sure to stop by the garden this summer to check out all the growth to come. Summer open garden hours will be held on Thursdays from 9am-12pm from June 17th to August 15th. Come enjoy some garden activities and free Chief Charlo garden produce! Interested in getting your hands even dirtier? We are looking for volunteers to help weed and harvest during the summer. FAMILIES IN TRANSITION (FIT) PROGRAM
The Families in Transition (FIT) Program is here to assist Chief Charlo students and families experiencing housing instability (McKinney-Vento Act) and/or economic hardship. FIT works as a bridge between those families, our school and the district staff to empower students to stay in school and remain successful both in school and as lifelong learners. FIT also provides families access to community resources and services.
FIT is able to provide extra services to our students in need. This may include extra one-on-one educational support, or supplying students with school supplies, weekly EmPower Packs, or basic needs such as clothing, gym shoes, winter gear, toiletries, etc.
FIT is here to support your family, because we care about all of our Wolves - BIG and small!!
I look forward to assisting you!
