Forked River School Newsletter
January 2025
Greetings FRS Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a memorable holiday season and we wish you all the best in the New Year!
As we progress through the heart of the 2024-2025 school year, I wanted to remind everyone that student attendance is very important. The state of New Jersey monitors our attendance and tardy rates for students who are truant. The state identifies truancy as any child who is absent from school for 10% of the total number of days school has been in session.
On Monday, January 20th, school will be closed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Lacey Township School District's fifth grade band which includes students from Forked River School, Cedar Creek School, and Lanoka Harbor School will make their debut with their first concert of the year on Thursday, January 23rd. They will perform in the Lacey Township High School's auditorium at 6:00 PM. The Lacey Township High School is located at 73 Haines Street, Lanoka Harbor, NJ 08734. We look forward to a great winter concert!
Parent conferences are scheduled for January 29th, 30th, and 31st. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 PM on each of those days. Breakfast will be served. However, lunch will not be served. Students attending the Champions after-school program should pack a lunch to eat when they arrive to the Champions program. We look forward to seeing everyone for parent conferences!
Our January spirit days are as follows:
- January 10th - Flannel Friday - Wear your favorite flannel or plaid!
- January 22nd - Blizzard Day - Wear white!
- January 28th - Headband / Hat Day - Wear your favorite headband or hat!
- Every Friday we encourage our students and staff to wear their favorite Lacey / Forked River School spirit wear!
As we begin our journey through the season of winter, the Lacey Township School district will send an automated call, text, and email at approximately 5:00 AM the morning of the weather event if our operating schedule needs to be changed due to hazardous road conditions. This information will also be posted on our websites. In the event of a weather-related delayed opening, school begins at 11:00 AM with busses picking students up two hours later than their normally assigned pick-up time. The Champions before-school childcare program will also open two hours later at 8:45 AM. In the event of a weather-related early dismissal, school dismisses at 1:00 PM and the Champions after-school program will be closed. It is very important for all children to know where to go in the event of an early dismissal if you are not home.
As always, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our December “Students of the Month” here at the Forked River School. These students were chosen by our special area teachers for their positive attitudes, helping hands, and dedication to learning.

In closing, we look forward to an educationally productive January. Please be sure to read to and with your children each night and practice their math facts. Educational research overwhelmingly shows this is one of the most important activities in developing and enhancing both language, reading, and math skills among elementary-age children. In addition, our website, http://frs.laceyschools.org, has many fun math-based websites available for students to visit through the “Student Links” tab.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
The Forked River School Staff
