Here At JRB

It continues to amaze me how quickly the year goes by. I can still remember hosting the parents of our K group early in the year and all the kids could talk about was the huge bump we had on the bus ride! This year holds a special place in my heart as I saw many of these kids that are now leaving us for Overlook when they were kindergarten students. It's been great to see all of them grow so much, and when they are put to the test they usually respond.

During the summer, Mr. L and I will finalize the class lists. You can expect those sometime in August. For now, we hope students and staff take extra time to refresh. Everyone here works hard when asked, so these times to relax are great.

Finally, as we have done in the past, we will ask you to share any pictures of your students reading this summer. Feel free to share them via email (nnorth@awrsd.org) or the messaging of Facebook or Instagram. Below are a few samples from last year, but we love to see the cool places your kids find to read a book, a magazine, or even just a map.

Thank you again for entrusting us with your kiddos. I personally think we have an amazing staff that really focuses on how to get the most out of each student. We are excited for next year, but we can hold on to that excitement for just a little while.

BAND & CHORUS info for the 2024-25 school year:

BAND INSTRUMENT DEMONSTRATION NIGHT for 3rd-5th grade students & their families is tentatively scheduled for: Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at 7pm in the JRB Cafetorium. More details to follow!

All current 2nd-4th grade classes have learned about joining our Chorus and/or Band in the fall, as well as which band instrument lessons are offered here at JRB. First-time students join the Beginner Band after 4-6 weeks of lessons. Beginner Band is typically held on Tuesdays after school from 3-4pm beginning at the end of October. Beginner students eventually move up to the Advanced Band when ready in January/February, which meets on Thursdays from 3-4pm after school. All band students are expected to take lessons throughout the school year on their instrument, either here at JRB, or elsewhere.

Chorus rehearsals are held on Friday mornings BEFORE school, from 7:30-8:20am.

Band & Chorus typically have Winter & Spring Concerts together, as well as District Band & Choral Concerts in March, which are all held at Oakmont. Both groups also performed at our Memorial Day Assembly a few weeks ago. Our Chorus is once again scheduled to perform at the Celebrate Ashburnham Street Fair on September 21st!

Please ask your 2nd-4th grade child if they’re interested in joining the band and/or chorus in the fall! More information and registration will be released just before the start of the next school year! In the meantime, any questions can be directed to Mrs. Lordan: mlordan@awrsd.org.

We had a great event this week with our Fun Run. The students and staff had a great day for such an event. We came up a bit short of our goal of $20,000, but we had the Cake In The Face assembly anyway. There is movement on the playground front, so we hope we can update folks on that soon too. Thank you to everyone that participated in this great event. We look forward to ending the year next year in a similar way.
