MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
Please remember that there is no school for students tomorrow (10/6) or Monday(10/9). Some caregivers are attending conferences with teachers on Friday, October 6 and some have had conferences in the weeks leading up to this day. If you have not had an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s), please reach out directly to them to set something up. On Monday, all of CVSD will be closed to honor Indigenous People’s Day. We look forward to welcoming back students on Tuesday, the 10th of October.
Next week, our whole CCS student-body will be learning bus safety. Our drivers will come to CCS on Thursday and invite classes to get on the buses, learn the rules for being a passenger, and then all students will practice a bus evacuation. Simply put- they will safely exit the back of the bus, instead of the usual front door. This timing is perfect as we send our third and fourth graders off on field-trips on Friday.
For your reference, the following are expectations for behavior on CVSD school buses that are listed in the Student Handbook.
- All school rules apply on buses
- Follow directions from bus drivers
- Respect the property and rights of others
- Sit in assigned seats
- Stay in seat until destination
- Keep hands and head inside window
- No eating or drinking on bus
- Speak respectfully to and about others
Kind regards, The CCS Administration

SCHOOL LIBRARY NEWS
"Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them. That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people". K-4 students are participating in this global reading community over the next 6 weeks during their library classes! Our K-3rd graders are participating in an author study of Jacqueline Woodson, and 4th graders are experiencing the first book in the adventure/fantasy series Future Hero.
How to hook a student on books?
At CCS, our library team; Heidi Heustis, Genevieve Trono and Carol Blanshine, and the Literacy teachers; Matt Lutz and Julia Beerworth, have been offering students in Omega 7/8 “Book Buffets”. Students are given time to browse similar genres of books and hear a description of what the book is about. Then the students each record the books they may be interested in on a bookmark. Weekly times in the library are dedicated to Omega students. Since the start of this collaboration with classroom teachers, data shows an 60% increase in book checkouts by Omega students since last year at this time.
INFORMATION FROM THE PTO
SPIRIT GEAR
Don't forget to order CCS Spirit Gear while the store is OPEN! We have all kinds of great gear (t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, flannel PJ bottoms, a travel blanket) -- most of it featuring our colorful new logo. When you buy from our online shop, you not only help fund the PTO's grants for teachers, an emergency fund for local families, and much more -- you also support a local business. All the silk-screened items in the online store are done by hand here in Charlotte! The store will only be open until October 15th and will not re-open until the spring, so get your orders in today. Spirit gear makes a great holiday gift and is also a hit with grandparents. Please visit the store website at ccsspirtitwear2023.itemorder.com/shop/home
CCS COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS SERIES
Please join us on October 19th from 6:30-7:30 in the CCS Library for the first in a four-part series designed to foster connections between our students’ caregivers and school. This first discussion will include the CCS principal and assistant principal. They’ll introduce themselves and discuss their academic and social vision for this school year. We would love to provide them questions from parents and caregivers in advance of the meeting; please send along any/all questions to your grade representative. This will be a hybrid meeting; while we encourage as many caregivers as possible to join in person, you will have the option of joining remotely (stay tuned for details!).
CVSD FALL FAMILY AND CAREGIVER SURVEY IS LIVE!
CVSD values your feedback and we want to know what you think!
We are currently surveying our families and caregivers to gain insight into your perception of our school and district's effectiveness. To ensure that we continue to provide high-quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college, career, and the future, we would love to learn your opinion on the progress towards those ends.
To administer these surveys, we have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our Fall 2023 Family Survey. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses confidential and anonymous. The survey will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and our district exemplary.
You may complete the survey online between September 22 and October 13 using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you have children in more than one of our schools, we'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts about each separately. Please note: we are not certain that the survey saves if you have to step away while completing it. Please try to fill it out in one sitting.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us using Let's Talk and selecting the General Questions topic.
Thank you,
Rene Sanchez, Superintendent
Champlain Valley School District
