News From Dr. Cappucci
IT IS TIME TO GIVE THANKS TO ALL OF THOSE THAT HELP TO MAKE GLENWOOD A VERY SPECIAL PLACE
It is the perfect time to thank everyone that has played a role in making Glenwood a strong community. It takes a village and at Glenwood we are very lucky to have the support of such a strong community.
Teachers are the heart and soul of Glenwood. These dedicated teachers devote an enormous amount of time to ensure that our students can all develop the skills they need to advance in their academic careers and beyond. Every teacher goes the extra mile, not only for their homeroom students, but all of our students. You would be hard pressed to find a harder working and caring staff. We are a lucky community!
Assistant Principal- We are lucky to have Mr. Gauvin who heads up our special education department and ensures the daily Glenwood Pledge is followed by all of our students.
Paraprofessionals-Where would we be without our paraprofessionals and ABAs? They are determined to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to have their academic needs met. They do so with a smile on their face and a loving heart.
Secretary- Mrs. Johnstone greets everyone with a smile and keeps Glenwood organized and running seamlessly.
Nurse-Mrs. Lawton is always ready with a thermometer and band aids when necessary. She also supports our medically fragile students.
Custodians- We are so lucky to have this amazing custodial crew. Not only does our school sparkle, but they are always ready to assist any teacher or staff member with any project.
School Psychologist and guidance counselor- Dr. Liubovich and Mrs. Pasquino are key to the social emotional health of our students.
Support Staff-Speech Pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists and their assistants work tirelessly to meet the needs of our students.
Cafeteria- Healthy lunches are prepared by our knowledgeable cafeteria staff. Their dedication to the health of our students is key. Each lunch is a balanced meal prepared by our crew.
PTO Board- The PTO consists of parents who volunteer an enormous amount of time to ensure Glenwood students not only have extra-curricular activities, but are also exposed to cutting edge technology. Throughout this year they have run countless fundraisers to support our students. We could not do this without the support of our PTO we want to take this opportunity to say, THANK YOU!
Parent Volunteers-We need our treasured volunteers at Glenwood.
Parents, Guardians and Families who work so closely with Glenwood staff and administration as allies. This is the best recipe for school success!
Rutland DPW crews keep our roads clear and are always ready to assist us with any project we need.
Rutland Police and Fire Departments- We have developed a strong partnership with our safety officers. From the third grade fire prevention program to our bullying presentation, the fire and police departments have become an integral part of the Glenwood community. We have to thank Officer Deschamps who is our school liaison, for visiting Glenwood regularly.
Rutland Town Administrator and the Team.
Rutland Recreation supports all of the extra curricular activities and the after school clubhouse program.
Because of you, Glenwood is a great place to work and learn!

Substitutes Needed
The Wachusett Regional School District is in need of substitutes throughout our school system. Whether you are interested in substituting as a day to day teacher, paraprofessional, food service associate, nurse, or custodian, we can use your support. The Wachusett Regional School District encourages all candidates who are committed to enriching the lives of our student population to apply. Access all openings via this link that will take you to the "Employment Opportunities" section of the District's website. We thank you for your continued support of our students and programs as we could really use your help.
We have moved to a new reading program HMH Into Reading has been started this year. There is a parent component.
HOMEWORK AT GLENWOOD
At Home Support for Into Reading and Math
In an effort to allow children to be children and give them time to explore their interests and spend time with their families, we will continue with our unstructured homework. It is expected that students read (20 -40 minutes a night depending on their grade levels) and practice math facts nightly. It’s just expected that both will be done. Students will be held accountable for knowing their math facts as well as reading for enjoyment each night. The only time homework will be formally assigned is when students need to study for a test/quiz or complete a project. We now have AMIRA access at home for ELA and ALEKS for math support. I know it is tempting for children to use a device or watch TV in the absence of formalized homework, but we ask that you have your child work on these sites.
Buses 21, 19, 11, 14, 10
Buses 21, 19, 14, 10, and 11 are full. We cannot add one more child to those buses. Please plan accordingly for half days.
Thank you for understanding.
Phone Call After 3:15 pm.
We appreciate your help with this.
Alternate Transportation Needs and Bus Permission Slip
This is usually used for childcare.
You can also give permission for your child to get off of the bus without an adult present using this form.
This must be approved by the bus company and your child will need a signed note from the office for all first time trips on a new bus. Approval may take 1-2 weeks.
Please note that 4th and 5th graders will now be allowed to get off the bus at their assigned stop without an Alternate Transportation Form.

The Makerspace
A true makerspace is defined not by what's in it, but rather by what comes out of it: projects, experiences, artifacts, and learning. At Glenwood we are looking to have a makerspace that opens opportunities for children to design, create and explore. We are looking for donations of materials we can use in our makerspace. We are in desperate need of materials for our makerspace. Some things that we can not get enough of are:
small pieces of wood and nails for building
Cereal and cardboard boxes
masking and duct tape,
toilet paper and paper towel rolls,
craft supplies,
cereal boxes,
cardboard,
fabric, yarn,
streamers
plastic containers,
or anything that may end up in the recycling bin
We appreciate these and other materials that are in a clean and usable condition.
Mr. Lague visited the Makerspace this week.

The annual Fifth Grade Celebration will be here before we know it!
This special day sends our kids off to middle school with a bang! To be totally transparent, we need to raise about $4000 to be able to provide entertainment, activities and gifts for each student (e.g., a tee shirt and a CTMS water bottle). We would like to start now by accepting donations of any amount and possibly avoiding any extra fundraising later in the year. Breaking down the goal amount per student would suggest that about $35 per family would cover the entire thing (that’s not so bad, right?!). However, any amount will be appreciated and helpful!
🎉 Donations can be in the form of a CHECK sent into school made out to Glenwood PTO. PLEASE indicate in the memo that it is for the 5th Grade Celebration!
🎉 Venmo can be sent to @Glenwood-PTO Again, PLEASE indicate in the note that it is for the 5th Grade Celebration!
Join us Mon, Jan 13th, 6:30pm at the Glenwood Library for the next Celebration meeting
Thank you for your collaboration!

November's Value is Acceptance.
Hello WRSD Parents and Guardians,
The Office of Student Support is excited to communicate the next two Parent/Guardian Workshops of this school year!
Join us virtually on Wednesday, November 20th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. to hear our guest presenter, Greg West speak on cyber safety. Adolescents are commonly targets of attacks, be those through social media, physical violence or emotional manipulation, coercion and blackmail. Prevention is not always possible, but this presentation identifies ways that we can make ourselves, and our children, less vulnerable with consideration of methods of maximizing security and safety. To register for November 20th: https://forms.gle/oxpFvohU82woPfGdA

Cori
If you have been CORI'd at one of the three Rutland schools, then your CORI will carry over to the next school, however, they are only active for three years. There are times when we can get the results of a CORI check back quickly, but there are also times when we wait weeks for the results.
Avoid the rush by checking in with Mrs. Johnstone prior to any school activity.
Glenwood School Information
School Hours: Doors open at Glenwood at 8:55am. Please do not drop off students unattended prior to 8:55am as we do not have staff in place to monitor students until the doors are open. Our dismissal begins around 3:30 (a bit earlier even in the beginning of the year).
Dismissal: If you need to dismiss your child early for any reason, please send in a note to their homeroom teacher the morning of the dismissal or send an email to their teacher and Mrs. Johnstone that morning. Please include your child’s first and last name as well as their homeroom teacher on all notes. Please refrain from dismissals after 3:15pm as the office gets busy with dismissal preparation.Absent: If your child will be absent, please call the school in the morning to notify us. If you know in advance that your child will not be in school, please send an email to their homeroom teacher and our school secretary, Mrs. Johnstone (jeanine_johnstone@wrsd.net) in advance notifying us. Please include their first and last name, homeroom teacher, reason for absence and duration of absence.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not email staff/ teachers regarding dismissal changes during the school day. We can not guarantee that staff will read the email and/or there is always a chance that our technology has a disruption. Please call the office with any dismissal changes during the day. Thank you!
Tardy: If your child will be tardy to school, please walk them to the front office upon arrival to check in. Your child is tardy if they arrive after 9:08.
PowerSchool: The Parent Portal in PowerSchool is the key tool for accessing important information (Student Handbook/ Report Cards). Please let us know in the office if you are having trouble accessing the Parent Portal.
Volunteering: You will need to complete a Cori Form that can be found online in order to volunteer at school. Approvals generally take 4 weeks. At times, opportunities to volunteer may be available. The link to the CORI FORM is also located below. Please don't wait until spring (i.e. Field Day) to get your CORI. Please take the time to get this done early in the school year. Thank you!
