St. Luke Weekly SMORE
September 12, 2021
St. Luke Community,
This week staff will have a chance to connect with parents and guardians in our school community. Staff will be setting up virtual meets to welcome you into their classroom. This will allow both you and your child’s teacher to put a name to a face and to build connections. As COVID restrictions continue we continue to find creative ways to engage our school community. Please take some time on Wednesday to meet our staff as they share all the good things happening in their classrooms.
If you ever have any questions or concerns please reach out. All of the staff here at St. Luke would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

National Day For Truth and Reconciliation - School Closure
The Government of Canada has proclaimed September 30th as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day will honour survivors, their families, and their communities. It will also ensure that public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.
At a special public meeting on September 9, 2021, the Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) Board of Trustees unanimously passed a motion to amend the 2021-2022 school calendar to officially mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across the division with a school closure day.
EICS Board of Trustees Chair Ted Paszek made the following statement; “This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is incredibly important for us to reflect on a very relevant issue in our society as a school community. Also, as in past years, our schools will be participating in Orange Shirt Day/Every Child Matters events on September 29, 2021, which further provides opportunities to teach our students about the history and legacy of residential schools.”
TERRY FOX SCHOOL RUN
We are excited to announce that our school will be proudly taking part in the 2021 Terry Fox School Run. While this year’s event might still look a little different form previous years, we are excited to share that we have developed creative ways for all of our staff and students to take part. We hope that we can continue to show the great strength and resiliency of our school community with your support of one of our greatest Canadian heroes, Terry Fox. Let’s all use Terry’s message of hope and strength to inspire us during these challenging times.
Our Terry Fox Run will take place on Thursday, September 16th at 2pm!! Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather!!
All next week we will be collecting Toonies for Terry!! Student donations can be given to their homeroom teachers. If you would like to donate online please follow the link http://www.terryfox.ca/StLukeCatholicSchoolSherwoodPark

GOOGLE CLASSROOM FOR PARENTS
COVID DAILY HEALTH CHECK
As a parent/guardian you are required to complete a daily health screening check for your child each day before they come to school. We need everyone's help and commitment to these health checks, as well as making sure that your child stays home if they are feeling unwell or displaying any symptoms. This is the most important measure we can all do to keep our school safe.
Children: Children under 18, including all students who attend kindergarten through Grade 12 and high school students over 18, must complete the Alberta Health Daily Checklist for Children under 18 before going to school, child care or other activities.
- isolate if they have core COVID-19 symptoms or test positive
- follow best practices to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses
Adults: School staff and visitors must review the Alberta Health Daily Checklist to determine if they may enter a school.
A back-to-school tool kit provides information for parents and school staff on what to expect when students head to their classrooms.
