A Note from your School Leaders
Planning Ahead, Just in Case!
While I am no weather expert and have no crystal ball to predict the future, the forecast is looking significant for the storm this week. Here are a few points to consider given a couple possible scenarios for your planning purposes:
If there is no school Thursday, 4/4 due to the storm, this will be a regular snow day, and the last day of school will be Friday, June 14.
If there is no school Thursday, 4/4 *AND* Friday 4/ 5, Thursday will be a regular snow day, and Friday will be a “Remote/Work from Home” day. The last day of school will still be Friday, June 14.
Teachers have reviewed the expectations with students this week, just in case.
- Here is the link to our website with the overview, assignments and choice boards in case your paper packet has been misplaced.
The Maine Department of Education requires that daily attendance is accounted for, even on a remote storm day. Our plan is to take attendance via a Google Form that will be sent via a Smore Newsletter by 9:00 AM. The goal is for families to complete this form for their child by 10:30 AM in order for the office staff to reconcile our records. We recognize that storm-day conditions can be very unpredictable for everyone. In the event that storm day conditions or household needs interfere with a family's ability to submit the attendance form or students' ability to complete remote work in a timely manner, please reach out to us at your earliest convenience so that we can help problem-solve and update attendance accordingly.
- We will stay with our original plan to collect back the Remote Work Folders over the week of April 8-11. We would like to folders back either way: to reuse if they have not been worked on, and to review if they have been worked on.
If your parent/teacher conference is impacted by school cancellation(s), teachers will be in touch directly to either reschedule your meeting and/or offer a zoom conference, which could be an option if preferred and all parties have power and internet.
Warmly,
Kelli Crosby & Brem Stoner

Check out all the amazing learning happening each week in your Wentworth student's allied arts classes.

Maine Through Year Assessment
Please see the letter from our DIrector of Curriculum and Assessment, Katie Vetro, below about upcoming spring assessments. At Wentworth School, the Maine Through Year will take place in the mornings, the week of April 29.
Food Celebrations Reminder
We have noticed an increase in families sending special treats for special occasions. While we love a good cupcake as much as the next person, please resist the urge to send in unexpected food related treats and celebrations for the class. There are many students with allergies and this can be a safety issue or cause kids to feel very left out, a super sugary snack does not support focused learning, this practice creates equity concerns, and with 22 kids in each class, there can be a few rounds of cupcakes (or more!) every month. We appreciate your understanding, support and cooperation.
PTA Supports Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
Wentworth PTA is proud to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year....Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!
This year, we are roadtrippin' through a week of fun and appreciation for our FANTASTIC Wentworth teachers & staff. Please please please consider helping us fund this great event via Venmo @Wentworth-PTA. We will also gladly accept any gift card donations that we can raffle off during the week. Gift cards and donations can be sent with your child or dropped off at the office.

NEW SCHOOL SURVEY — YOUR VOICE MATTERS!
Survey in mailboxes soon. Responses will drive School Solution planning.
The new School Building Advisory Committee wants your opinion! The Town of Scarborough is mailing surveys to a randomized sample of addresses across Scarborough. The survey covers a variety of topics related to our public school buildings. Our survey consultant, ETC Institute, will collect and curate the anonymous surveys and provide a report with key findings. The survey will also be open to the public for additional input. Your voice is important for a community solution to our schools!
NEW CITIZEN-LED SCHOOL BUILDING ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO ASSIST IN DEVELOPING SCHOOL SOLUTION
Scarborough’s School Building Advisory Committee (SBAC) was created to bring the public into the school planning process at the ground level. The SBAC was formed after the Unified School Proposal was rejected by the voters in Nov 2023. Following the referendum’s defeat, the Town Council and School Board sought to bring the public back into the conversation about a school solution. SBAC members include volunteers from the Scarborough community who bring expertise and interests to the table, as well as select elected officials.
SBAC members have divided into subcommittees focusing on different aspects of school needs. Their work now is to review and analyze the materials of the previous School committee as they seek a fiscally responsible solution for Scarborough’s school deficiencies.
When results from the town-wide survey are available, SBAC members will use this data to inform their analysis and recommendations for a school solution.
