Attention Student Athletes & Families!
ASVAB Testing & Study Material
Dear junior and senior students and families,
I wanted to share some important information about the upcoming ASVAB testing opportunities for juniors and seniors at our school. ASVAB testing will be taking place on the following dates:
ASVAB Testing Dates:
Seniors - November 4th, 9:30am - AUX Gym
(Juniors who missed their ASVAB test date on Oct. 23rd can make up testing with the seniors on November 4th. Talk to Ms. Torres in the counseling office.)
This is an important opportunity for juniors and seniors to meet the College and Career Readiness Demonstration (CCRD) requirement for graduation. The state of Colorado requires students to demonstrate college and career readiness to graduate from high school. This requirement centers around the demonstration of proficiency in math and English Language Arts. By taking the ASVAB, students will not only have the opportunity to fulfill this requirement, but they will also have the chance to use their ASVAB results as a valuable career exploration tool. Although the ASVAB is used by the military as an entrance exam, taking the ASVAB will not obligate students to the military and scores will NOT be shared with military recruiters unless students provide written permission during the test administration.
To prepare for the assessment, students are encouraged to visit the following website:
https://www.asvabpracticetests.com/.
For more information on the CCRD graduation requirement, please see the resources below
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program includes a validated aptitude test and interest assessment. There are 9 sections in the student version of the ASVAB: general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mathematics knowledge, electronics information, auto information, shop information, and mechanical comprehension. The four areas that make up the score required for graduation are: word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, arithmetic reasoning and mathematics knowledge. The other five areas give information about career possibilities.
After taking the ASVAB, students will receive a personalized score explanation, interest inventory, and guidance in connecting with satisfying careers that may be a good fit for them. Test result interpretations will be available on December 6th in the Future Center.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or your assigned counselor. We are here to support you!
