100th Day Update
100th Day of School - Spirit Day:
Last Thursday's "Snow Day" bumped our hundredth day celebration back to Thursday of this week. However, potential delays this week could impact the Spirit Day as follows:
If school is closed on Wednesday only, then the 100th day will be simultaneous with Valentine's Day, this Friday February 14th. [Anyone have red shirts with numbers on them?]
If school is closed Wednesday and Thursday, then the 100th day will be bumped to next Tuesday, February 18th.

Culture Fest
*We need more families to share their traditions - so we do not have to cancel this year, please consider signing up!
What: Come join Rockburn for a night of fun and learning of the amazing cultures we have in our community. You can choose to participate in three different ways!
Families can attend to learn more about the cultures in the community.
Create a poster board (we recommend a three-panel board, so it stands up) and bring artifacts, samples of food, or wear traditional cultural clothing that represent your family. You will have an area on a table to display your culture.
You can also choose to read a read aloud book in the "reading room" that represents your culture.
When: THURSDAY February 20, 2025 from 5:30-7:00. We'll have time for visiting booths followed by performances.
** If you are presenting, you are welcome to come at 5:00 to set up.
Where: Rockburn Elementary School
Who: Any RES student and their family. Please come! Please teach us about your culture!
**Please sign up by February 10, 2024 to let us know your interest. If we have less than 15 families signed up to share about their culture, we will sadly have to cancel this event.

Winter Weather and Outdoor Recess
As we enter into the colder winter months, we wanted to send this reminder about outdoor recess.
Children are expected to wear warm clothing to protect them during cold weather when participating in recess or outside activities. The decision to go outside or stay inside for recess, physical education, or any other outdoor activity is a decision made daily based on the following criteria:
• Temperature and humidity
• Wind chill
• Heat index and air quality
• Age of students
• Length of time outdoors
• Adequacy of the children’s clothing
• Condition of the playground
• Falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist)
• Thunder and lightning
Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess, outdoor eating, physical education, or any other outdoor activity when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit or the heat index reading is less than 95.
