Message from the Principal
Dear Shepherd of the Hills Students, Families, and Community,
It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with hard-working students, extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive parent and school community. I will work hard with teachers and staff to instill positive virtues and empower our students to seek their full potential.
This is my first year as Principal, but I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than seventeen years. I have worked with students ranging in age from 4-year-old Kindergarten through 8th grade in various roles. I also taught Special Education, K-6, and eighth-grade students with learning disabilities. This will be my second year at Shepherd, as I was the third-grade teacher this past school year.
When not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two beautiful daughters, cat Solstice, and dog Auggie. My husband Mitch is a firefighter for the City of Fond du Lac. Our oldest daughter Gracie is fifteen, and Emmie is thirteen. Gracie is a junior, and Emmie is in eighth grade. Life is busy and full of joy and love with our two girls at home! A fun fact about my family is that we enjoy going fishing together. Salmon fishing is my favorite kind of fishing!
I feel truly blessed that I will have the opportunity to serve you and your children as the new principal at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic School. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share. I’m looking forward to a fantastic school year with positive new beginnings!
God Bless,
Amelia Petersen, Principal
Meet Shepherds New Band & Chimes Teachers
Mr. Mike Bautz
I grew up in southeastern Wisconsin, graduating from Waukesha North High School in 1986. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Music (UW-Madison) and have been teaching guitar for over 30 years to students in a variety of settings from music stores and universities to the internet. I have taught guitar at MPTC (West Bend), UW-Fond du Lac, Marian University, and currently teach guitar, bass, and ukulele at Mike’s Music and Sound in Fond du Lac.
Over the years I have enjoyed playing as a soloist on classical guitar and playing bass, guitar, and even a little keyboard for numerous bands in southern and eastern Wisconsin. I have also worked as an arranger and proofreader for Hal Leonard music publishing.
In my spare time I enjoy writing my own music, cooking new foods, and spending time with my kids! I am thrilled that I have been asked to join the staff here at Shepherd of the Hills and look forward to making music with your talented students!
Mrs. Kathy Hansen
I discovered the magic of music at a young age. I began learning musical instruments in the 4th grade. Music gave me a way to express myself and I found it exciting and challenging to continuously learn something new. Through music I became a leader, gained self esteem, happiness and life long friendships.
After High School I attended Northern Illinois University where I earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Music. I have been teaching Private and group lessons since 1983. I taught a self-contained 5th grade class for a year before we relocated to Texas. There I worked at a Music store as a Sales Representative, Woodwind Instructor and Clarinet Workshop Presenter at the local schools. I have always played with local Flute, Clarinet and Hand Bell Choirs, Musicals, Ensembles and Symphonic Bands wherever life has taken me.
My husband, David and I have lived in Fond du Lac, WI since 1997 and have raised 3 beautiful girls. Once all the kids were in school, I began substitute teaching and working at Mikes Music and Sound in Fond du Lac, where I learned to clean and repair musical instruments. After 5 years I decided to go back to school at Marian University to continue my Music Education. I refreshed my Music History and Theory. I learned to arrange and write music on a computer program. I also learned how to play Brass and String Instruments so that I could play and teach them. From 2013 - 2023, I taught Choir Chimes and Band at SOTH. I started taking guitar and Ukulele lessons a few years ago and added beginner Guitar and Ukulele to the roster. We now have 4 grandkids that add a whole new dimension to our lives. I took a year off to spend quality time with these kids and to help out as needed.
I am excited and honored to be returning to Shepherd of the Hills Catholic School to teach Instrumental Music again. I cannot think of a better job than to give others the opportunity to experience Music Education. Music is creative, expressive, thought provoking, mathematical, mechanical, emotional and so much more. I love working with beginners and Middle School Band students. It is my hope to inspire students to continue with music and to use the knowledge and share the gifts that come from this discipline.
I am looking forward to working with all the wonderful staff again and meeting new parents and students. Please talk to your kids and grandchildren about signing up for music lessons at Shepherd of the Hills School this fall. Lets’ make a joyful noise!
Sincerely,
Kathy Hansen
