NORTHSIDE P.R.O.U.D
The Northside Way Committee focuses on using positive behavioral strategies to help students learn and exhibit expected behaviors at school, home, and within the community. Each month the committee meets to evaluate behavior data, determine focus areas, and plan ways to reteach, reinforce, and celebrate.
Last month, students exhibited behaviors surrounding the theme of You Can Do Hard Things! We focused on thinking about what other people want and not just what we want... on the playground, in the classroom, and during lunch. We worked on listening without interrupting our teachers and classmates. Students continue to keep trying when things get hard! We had and continue to have a lot of testing to wrap up our school year. We have very hard working students. Keep up the good work, Northside!
We have been raising money for the Big Brother Big Sisters program which students worked together with their buddy classrooms. We cannot wait to see which buddy classroom won our penny challenge! We will also hear who won the popsicle parties at our next school assembly.
Throughout the month of May, students will be focusing on being Northside P.R.O.U.D. and practicing the following behaviors:
- Problem Solve
- Ready to Learn
- Own My Choices
- Use Control
- Doing What is Right!

Fitness & Nutrition
Teaching children that water is the best beverage for them can facilitate building a healthy, lifelong habit of drinking water. Water does so many great things for us including: energizes our muscles, maintains normal bowel function, helps our kidneys function, and controls calorie intake. Even just mild dehydration can lead to headaches, irritability, and difficulty learning. By improving children’s hydration, they may feel better throughout the day and therefore improve their performance in school. Best of all, water is FREE and easily accessible! Not sure how much water your child should consume in a day? Consult with your pediatrician as amounts differ by age, size, gender, and activity levels. Check out the graphic for fun ways to help increase you and your family’s water consumption. ~MSD Wellness

March Camper of the Month - Aryan Castellanos
Aryan Castellanos has been a wonderful addition to Northside. Despite the difficulties of a transfer, she came in with a smile and positive attitude. She showed resilience, flexibility, and huge responsibility as she navigated new places and schedules. Aryan embraced the new teachers and students, and we all embraced her right back. She instantly became a leader in the classroom with her excellent behavior and incredible work ethic. When newcomers arrived shortly after school began, Aryan took them under her wing, helped them feel comfortable, and used her strong bilingual skills to help the students navigate academics. Without prompting, she'd seek out these students to ensure they understood anything necessary before she ever worried about completing her own work. As a teacher, I'm so grateful for her and indebted to her. She is the kind of student all teachers love to have and the kind of friend everyone needs. Way to go, Aryan!
