Wixom Howler Edition 18
December 6, 2024
Wixom Calendar Dates
12/12 1/2 Day of school dismissal
12/23-1/3 Winter Break
1/6/25 Return to School
December 12th is also a ½ day of school with an 11:25 a.m dismissal for students.
Dismissal time is an hour earlier than traditional ½ days to allow staff sufficient time to conference with families. Conferences are an important part of the school-home partnership. Our staff looks forward to this opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with you. Please notify your child’s teacher if you need a translator to assist with the conference.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Skyward Family Access will open Wednesday, November 27th, just after 7:00 a.m., for parents and guardians to sign up for parent-teacher conferences. Conferences will take place Thursday, December 12th, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. As you sign up for conferences, please know that conferences at the elementary level, district wide, are scheduled to be in-person. Any parent/guardian who requests a virtual conference, by necessity, is asked to work directly with the classroom teacher to schedule. Your conference time, on that date, will still be reflected as in-person conferences in Skyward. Thank you for being a partner in your child’s education!
Below are some helpful resources to assist with signing up for a conference:
· Click HERE for a quick video tutorial on how to sign up online for a conference.
· Click HERE if you need more information about Skyward Family Access.
You will be able to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher , specials’ teachers, (art, media, music, and physical education) and special services through Skyward Family Access. You can also change your conference time through Skyward Family Access. Please note, however, that specials’ teachers do not have sufficient conference slots for every family as they work with between 300-400 students. If you have a concern or compliment and are unable to secure a time with a specials’ teacher, please email him/her to connect. Conference sign up closes Monday, December 10th at 7:00 a.m.
Snow Angels-Winter Giving
Wixom has a long tradition of supporting families for the Holidays. This year, we want to provide families with Holiday support by collecting gift cards from various stores to give to families so they can shop for their children and feel a sense of excitement and support. The Snow Angels Program provides us with the opportunity to help make the holidays special.
It is as simple as the following steps:
1. While you are out shopping pick up a gift card for any increment. (Target, Walmart, Meijer, Kroger)
2. Drop the gift cards off at Wixom by December 13th.
3. The week of December 16th families will be contacted to pick up gift cards.
Holiday Shoppe Volunteer Sign Up
Our Holiday Shoppe at Wixom Elementary is quickly approaching, this is one of our most popular events and we need your help to make this happen. The Holiday Shoppe is a store that allows our students to purchase and wrap gifts for the whole family this holiday season. We have a variety of gifts to choose from with prices ranging from .50-$10. Our volunteers will help the students select items to purchase, work the cash register and help wrap their items. Each class will have the opportunity to shop during their scheduled time and we will also be open during conferences on 12/12/24. Hope to see you there! Happy Holidays!
Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
The Walled Lake Schools 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will take place at Walled Lake Northern High School on Monday, January 20th beginning at 5:00 p.m.
This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration theme is Unity.
“Unity in diversity is unity between all individuals and groups, regardless of differences. It is unity without uniformity, and diversity without divisiveness. It is an understanding that the differences between people enrich our lives and make our country the special, and unique place it is.”
Express Yourself Contest
Wixom students are invited to submit an entry that expresses the theme of “Unity” in their own unique way. There are lots of possibilities for creating a project. It can be a piece of writing, music, art, or other visual that shows what unity means to that student. Additional details about the Express Yourself contest can be found in the entry form linked below. Projects must be submitted to the Wixom Elementary main office by Friday, December 13th.
Dress for the weather
Michigan weather is constantly changing each day. Please make sure your child has the proper attire for outdoor play. We go outside every day for students to enjoy the fresh air. If you are in need of resources as we approach the winter months please don't hesitate to reach out to Taneia.
