Six Sentences that Will Change Your Mindset and Life
- Learn to react less. When you control your reaction, nobody can manipulate you.
- Control yourself, not others. Controlling others is strength. Controlling yourself is true power.
- Expect nothing, appreciate everything. Be grateful for the little things in your life to find inner peace.
- Do your best and trust the process. The harder you work, the luckier you will get.
- Stop telling people everything. Most of them don't care and some secretly want you to fail
- Choose your friends wisely. The fastest way to become better is to surround yourself with better people.
Welcome to the 16th edition of Dorm Happenings Here on the KSB campus in the exciting Holiday Happenings of the Howser Dorm "We are requesting parents to send in Christmas pajamas next week ( Dec. 15-20) as The KSB Alumni will be treating our dorm kids to a Polar Express themed night. We will be viewing The Polar Express, having a gingerbread house building competition & enjoying cookies and some hot cocoa."
As we began an exciting week here at the Howser Dorm on Sunday afternoon with a fine meal prepared by Ms. Destiny of pizza rolls, tater tots and assorted drinks and snacks. We began the playing of the favorite Christmas songs and some Christmas trivia. Sunday evening, we had time in the recreation gym with all students who returned on Sunday as we discussed events of the week, shopping plans and drawing names for Christmas. Then the students enjoyed time in the gym learning how to spin basketballs on their fingers and feeling of the spinning balls and some spatial awareness activities. The students also played other games and watched the big screen TV.
On Monday night the students worked with volunteers Denise Cardin and Karen Cooper from West Broadway Baptist church making Christmas cards and letters with students. We also had Mr. John Aaron and his wife Trish with dogs Olive and Bella, who were dressed in their Christmas red and green gear. The elementary students had a great visit with the dogs for the first time and then the older kids got to pet and play with the dogs. Such a great time that wore everyone out to the point that Ben and Bella were both asleep on the floor before the evening was over. It was a great start to the week with many things going on.
On Tuesday the elementary students and Mr. Larry and Ms. Hannah traveled to Target to do Christmas shopping for the Secret Santa gift exchange for next week and then a trip to McDonalds for a Christmas treat to top off the evening before going back to the dorm. After returning the middle school and high school boys traveled to Target with Mr. Larry and Mr. Bruce to do some shopping for their secret Santa gift exchange and they also got to do some price calculations, life skills moments with learning the opportunity to spend less money on one item and possibly get two or three gifts for the $25.00 amount they were allotted for gifts. They were also excited to visit the Golden Arches after shopping and partaking in a snack and drink before returning to Howser dorm. This night was full of adventure and meeting new people and tackling new challenges that our students and staffed handled with a high degree of efficiency.
On Wednesday we had a cold and snowy evening and night, but the elementary, middle and high school students were able to play in the rec. Gym, ceramics time and choose colors for their Christmas piece, and work with Ms. Destiny on their Christmas shirts. After supper time the girls went on a shopping spree to get their gifts at Target for Secret Santa and then a snack at McDonalds. It was a very busy Wednesday evening at Howser Dorm.
Thursday was an early day for me and recreation director as we met members of North Oldham Lions club at noon, and they unloaded a sleigh full of goodies for the students in the Greogry -Ries Student Center and gym and made preparations for Santa and Ms. Claus to visit the dorm students during the night. The students were playing and planning for their visit with Good Ole Saint Nick before supper time. After supper the students were getting excited to be able to see what Santa and Ms. Claus would be delivering to them. The big moment arrived and Santa and Ms. Claus delivered Christmas presents, food and cookies for the KSB dorm students around 7:00pm. It was a wonderful holiday moment for everyone.
We would like to thank the North Oldham Lions Club for their generous and continued support of our students here at KSB.
We will still have one more week of holiday fun next week.
So, until next time.
