McKinley Weekly Update
Week of January 23rd
Great Kindness Challenge
The Great Kindness Challenge kicks off this week at McKinley. Below is a flyer with spirit days for the week. You can also visit this site for ideas to spread kindness at McKinley and in our community. Thank you Donna Tennies and our Wellness Committee for organizing our Great Kindness Challenge.
Creating Safe and Affirming Schools
At McKinley we strive to create a learning community where all members feel safe, valued, welcomed, and accepted. To achieve this goal, our staff has participated in training focusing on creating a safe and affirming school for LGBTQ+ students. We are excited to announce that on February 23rd we will be offering training on this topic to parents/guardians with students attending McKinley Elementary.
Please visit this link for a description of the session and to learn more about our presenter, Dr. Vincent Pompei.
This training is open to McKinley parents and guardians. We are asking that you please let us know if you plan to attend this event by filling out this form.
If you would like more information on this topic, please visit the San Diego Unified School District LGBTQIA Parent Family Support website.

School Wide Behavior Expectations
We are in the process of implementing our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at McKinley. One component is to develop school-wide behavior expectations. Below you will see these expectations and how they are applied to different locations across the campus. Our staff will regularly review these expectations and correct student behavior using consistent expectations and language.
