November Parent Update
Dear Clara Westropp Families,
We had a fantastic October filled with memorable events! Thank you to everyone who joined us for Trunk or Treat—it was a huge success with a wonderful turnout and beautiful weather. Our Parent-Teacher Conferences were also a valuable time for connecting, and we loved seeing everyone’s support and involvement.
Our House Teams put on a fabulous Halloween celebration for our littlest learners, and the pumpkin decorating contest was a big hit! Congratulations to Sollevare, who took first place in the contest!
Thank you for making October a month to remember, and we look forward to even more great moments in November!
Now, as we turn our attention to November, we focus on the wonderful joys of gratitude and giving. We are incredibly grateful for our students and the unique gifts and strengths they bring to our learning community. We are thankful for our teachers and their countless hours of planning, preparation, and dedication to building a culture of academic success and achievement. And, of course, we are deeply grateful for you—our parents and guardians—for your constant support and encouragement in helping us be the best school we can be for our students.
There is so much to reflect on and appreciate as we look back on the year so far, and even more to strive toward as we continue building a bright future together. Thank you for being a part of our Clara Westropp family.
Mrs. Bing
👏 We Couldn't Do it Without YOU! 👏
November is National Family Engagement Month. National Parent Involvement Day also occurs this month on Thursday, November 21st.
Over 40 years of research clearly indicates all scholars achieve at higher levels when schools and families support each other.
When schools and families are engaged in meaningful two-way communication and collaboration, scholars have:
- More positive attitudes toward school
- Higher grades and test scores, which equal higher achievement
- Better attendance
- More homework completed
- Higher graduation rates
- Greater enrollment in post-secondary educational opportunities
Thank you for your dedication and support in your child's education-your involvement makes a world of difference. We are grateful for your partnerships and the positive impact you have on our school community every day!
Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance plays a crucial role in supporting students’ academic growth, building a strong foundation for future learning, and ensuring they stay connected with their peers and teachers.
When students attend school regularly, they benefit from:
1. Improved Academic Performance: Missing even a few days of school can make it challenging for students to keep up with the material, which can impact their progress.
2. Social Connections: Regular attendance helps students build and maintain friendships, creating a sense of belonging within the school community.
3. Building Good Habits: Developing consistent attendance at a young age promotes responsibility and time management, which are skills that will serve them throughout life.
Please help us in reinforcing the importance of attendance by ensuring that your child comes to school everyday, unless they are ill. We are here to support you and your child and understand that sometimes circumstances can impact attendance. Please reach out if you need assistance or have any concerns.
If your child is going to be absent please make sure to call the school office as early as possible to report the absence. Report an absence by calling 216-838-6250.
Please include the following in your message:
Child's name
Reason for absence
Date of absence
Remember we have our November Attendance Competition, Perfect Attendance All Month, will earn students a special field trip!
Cell Phone Reminder
Clara Westropp continues to be a cell-phone free school. Phones are collected and locked at the beginning of the day and returned during the last period. This aligns with CMSD's board policy and discipline can be issued per the Student Code of Conduct. Please encourage your children to follow this policy, as it helps to ensure a focused learning environment.
Nurse Claxon's Corner
It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our wonderful Nurse Knitter, who has chosen to pursue new opportunities. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and care, and she will be greatly missed by our entire Clara Westropp community.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome Nurse Claxon, who has joined us as our new school nurse. We’re confident that she will do amazing things for our students and community. Nurse Claxon has already received a warm welcome and is eager to support our students’ health and well-being.
Thank you for joining us in expressing gratitude to Nurse Knitter and welcoming Nurse Claxon to the Clara Westropp family.
