ŌRĀTIA DISTRICT SCHOOL - NEWSLETTER
Week 3 - Thursday 08 August 2024
MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Ōrātia. Malo e lelei. Zdravo. Talofa lava. Kia orana. Ni hao. Namaste. Kamusta. Greetings Ōrātia whānau.
Despite the chilly starts to the days we are really enjoying the sunnier weather this week. Our netball teams are playing diligently every week no matter what the weather is, our rugby team has participated in a second match against Henderson Valley this week, and our flippaball teams play every weekend. We have gymnastics set up in the school hall and the bike track is still being used regularly. On Friday we have our school Olympics Day, so I hope your child comes ready to participate in their own country's colours or the colours of the country they have been assigned for the event. It is a fun event with fun team activities planned and a parade of nations to start the day off. Your class teachers should have let you know more details about the day if you are hoping to come and observe the festivities. We would love to have you join us.
Please note we have our whānau hui on August 15, 6.30 start. All families are invited to attend. We will have cultural performances to start the time and then a chance for us to talk and gather some feedback from you all. We would love to have all of you attend, so please save the date. I will speak briefly about our ERO report and a summary of the parent survey. We will share some kai and have a good get together. Please RSVP to michellem@oratia.school.nz if you are attending to assist with numbers for catering.
A reminder that our PTA Quiz night is happening on 31st August in the hall. Tickets can be purchased on Kindo for this event which promises to be a fun and entertaining evening out.
Take care and stay safe.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda

THE HENDERSON VALLEY v ORATIA ANNUAL RUGBY CHALLENGE
Our school rugby team faced Henderson Valley School on Wednesday in a tough game. Henderson Valley's dominance in the rucks allowed their impressive backs to shine, leading to a challenging match for our side. Despite the loss, I was impressed with the step-up from our new players, including some big hits by Ava and Kyle. Manaia, one of our captains, played the full 60 minutes and inspired the team with his resilience. Lachlan scored a hat trick and earned Player of the Day from the Henderson Valley coaches. Although we have lost the first two games in the series and will hand over the Valley Shield, our team will come back stronger for the final game in Week 7. We're proud of the team's resilience against a very good Henderson Valley side.
