Principal's Letter
Connecting with our students, families and community is important to me to ensure all students and families have a sense of belonging and are engaged in the learning process, and it is important for everyone’s voice to be heard to help us grow and improve as a school. One of the best ways for our parents to be involved is through different organizations like PTA, but also to be a part of our School Accountability Committee (SAC). The School Accountability Committee is a great way for parents to provide input on school improvement efforts. The School Accountability Committee will have our first meeting on September 10th @ 4:30 p.m. at GHS. If you would like to join us that evening, please enter the front of the school and we will direct you to the location of the meeting. There will be additional SAC meetings throughout the year, and we will share those dates in the near future. I know it can be difficult to attend meetings at 4:30 p.m. for some of our parents, and I know serving on a committee is not the best option for all parents, so I will be partnering with PTA and SAC to create additional opportunities for us to connect throughout the year as a community. Please watch for announcements in the future for opportunities for the community to connect.
The students and teachers are starting to settle into their normal school routines, and I remind everyone of the importance of good attendance, and that we have lots of support in place for our students academically, socially and with school attendance.
Why Does Attendance Matter?
Research demonstrates a strong connection between student attendance and academic performance
Regular attendance allows students to establish and nurture relationships
Students who attend school each day have a better chance of learning and succeeding
Research shows that students who miss two days of school per month can struggle with reading and this may lead to social emotional stress
When your student misses school they also lose valuable learning time, can fall behind in their school work and as a result, it’s difficult to catch up
By 9th grade good attendance can predict graduation rates even better than 8th grade test scores
We understand some absences are unavoidable due to illness or family emergencies but we also know that students who miss too much school, even occasionally, can fall behind academically or socially. We believe that regular attendance is a key factor in your student’s academic progress and overall growth.
I encourage our students and parents to please reach out to our teachers, assistant principals and counselors if our students need support academically or socially and emotionally. I also encourage our students to take advantage of their time in Homeroom, Demon Academy classes and Access time after school to get additional support from their teachers. All staff members at Golden High School are here to help.
I encourage everyone to look at the calendar and find time to attend an extra-curricular event(s) and support our students in their activities coming up at GHS. Watching our students perform is always a joy, and a great way to show support.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.
Principal Graham
Club Rush
Club Rush is this Wednesday, September 4th during Homeroom. Students will go to their Homeroom for attendance and then the courtyard where they can learn more about the different Clubs offered at GHS.
Golden High School encourages all students to become involved in the more than thirty clubs and activities that the school has to offer. Research has shown that students involved in clubs and activities at school typically have better grades, increased motivation to do well in school, and an overall more positive high school experience. Clubs and activities also contribute to students’ self-respect, self-esteem, and value of teamwork. We are confident that all of our students can find a club or activity that is right for them.

GHS has two part-time therapy dogs - Aspen and Kala! Did you know that according to UCLA research, “humans interacting with animals have found that petting an animal promoted the release of serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin- all hormones that can play a part in elevating moods.” They also found that petting animals helps decrease anxiety.
