Remember to Vote!
The Nov. 5 election is right around the corner – remember to vote! Sumner-Bonney Lake School District’s Prop. 1: K-12 Expanded Student Capacity, School Improvements & Safety Upgrades is on the back of your ballot.
🔧At our school, Prop. 1 includes installing a lighted multi-use turf field for students and the community, as well as improving traffic circulation at the front of our building with parking upgrades.
Fall Conferences
Next week you will receive notification from your child's teacher regarding signing up for a fall conference. If you are have trouble signing up please reach out to your child's teacher. Parent-teacher conferences play a vital role in students educational experience by fostering effective communication, collaboration, and support between parents and teachers. Please let your child's teacher or the front office know in advance if you will need interpreter services to communicate with teacher.
The Giant Pumpkin Visit!
Thanks to Mrs. Parke´s Grandpa, Joel for sharing a giant pumpkin with our students.
Food Drive
In the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District we believe in the power of working together towards a common goal. Our commitment to this work starts with community partnerships and meeting basic needs. During the month of November, schools in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District will be collaborating in an effort to provide holiday meals to families. Participating schools will be collecting an item to contribute to these efforts.
At Donald Eismann Elementary, we will be collecting Cream of Mushroom Soup. Thank you to our 4th grade students and teachers for leading this important community service project!
Cream of Mushroom Soup will be collected from Monday, November 4 - Friday, November 15.
Reminder: Veteran's Day Celebration
We need your help to create a heartwarming Veterans Day slideshow that will honor our incredible heroes. Do you have any family members or friends who have served in the military? We want to showcase their bravery, sacrifice, and dedication in a special way. Here's what you can do: Gather your favorite photos of your loved ones in uniform, during their service, or even at home with their military memorabilia. Whether it's a snapshot of your grandpa in his uniform or a picture of your aunt during her deployment, every photo tells a unique story. Let's celebrate these extraordinary individuals and their contributions to our country! Please email all photos to dee@sumnersd.org. Be sure to include:
- Student Name
- Veteran Name
- Veteran’s relationship to student
- Military Branch
In addition, you can decorate a star for your family member who served in the military. Please print the attached star, or come into the main office and pick one up. You can put a picture of your loved one on the star and decorate it. They will be doing this activity in SEL class, but you are welcome to do one on your own. When it is complete, you can drop it off in the main office.
Together, let's show our gratitude and appreciation for those who have served our nation with courage and valor.
Dictionaries for 3rd Graders
Thank you to our local Rotarians for donating dictionaries to our 3rd grade students! This tradition has been long standing with our local Rotary Club and their connection to ensure every student in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District receives a dictionary in 3rd grade. Ask your child to share about this wonderful experience.
Good Attendance is Important
We value every student’s contribution to our school community and miss them when they are gone. Regular, daily attendance is one of the most important things a student can do to be successful in all grade levels.
Please remember…
All absences (excused and unexcused) have the potential of harming students academically.
Students who miss 10 percent (18 days) of the school year, or two or more days a month, are defined as being chronically absent.
By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
By 9th grade, regular and high attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
It takes an average of 3 days for a student to catch up from every 1 day of being absent.
Missing 3 or more days of school per month can set a student back up to 2 full years of learning.
Assess Your Student’s Attendance
Take an assessment of where your student is a quarter of the way through the school year and learn what you can do to help.
The Satisfactory Zone (0-3 absences): Your child has good attendance. Celebrate and make a goal with your child to have even better attendance.
The Warning Zone (4-6 absences): Your child’s learning may be affected. Pay special attention to make sure your child is keeping up with school work and support strong attendance in the future.
The Danger Zone (7-9 or more absences): There is a good chance your child has fallen behind academically. Develop a plan with your child’s school to help your child get to school on time and attend regularly.
Good attendance matters
Chronic absence (missing 10 percent of the school year or more) does not just affect the students who miss school. If too many students are chronically absent, it slows down instruction for other students, who must wait while the teacher repeats material for absentee students. This makes it harder for students to learn and teachers to teach.
Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life.
