Congratulations to ALL the concert bands for earning STRAIGHT first division ratings at UIL today!
You are in an elite group of band programs in the state who have 4 or more concert bands make straight 1st division ratings. I usually take a photo of your trophies…but they were back-ordered and will be here in a week or so.
All the directors are so proud that YOUR dedication and musicianship was recognized with such accolades. This pursuit of excellence and doing your VERY best will influence other parts of your life in a positive way. As my wife says…”you can do hard things.” Sounds so simple, but not everyone does it. Hold you heads high my friends, you are one of the elite bands and among the best musicians in the country. Well done.

This trip was wonderful! We experienced being on campus at the University of Houston, heard several spectacular student groups perform and rehearse, enjoyed some BEAUTIFUL weather at the Kemah Boardwalk, took a deep dive into Space, were blown away by the Houston Symphony, and traveled back a few million years at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

We will have our LAST band booster meeting of the year on Monday evening at 7pm in the band hall. We will vote for the Booster Board for next year and discuss end of year items, as well as our spring trip options for next year.

*The pianists we hire are highly skilled, degreed professionals. You are receiving some of the best musical preparation and support from these fine musicians in the DFW area.

On Cinco de Mayo we will have our inaugural BAND OLYMPICS! The goal of the leadership team was to have some spring events to get everyone together. Lots of trips this year prevented some of that, so we are putting it in May!

GREAT JOB hosting NTCA Solo & Ensemble this past Saturday! We showed off our beautiful Montgomery Center, earned some money, and most importantly represented Wylie well in our Circuit. We received several compliments on the way you handled yourselves and your positions on Saturday, and this will go a long way in helping us earn a host spot for next Winter Guard season.

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2023-24. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.

SERVICE AWARD

Camaraderie Level of Service 10-30 points | Excellence in Service 40+ Points

1. Work 4 hours of service- Sports Concessions Stands (typically 2 hours per game), Contest or Concert setup/hosting at designated JH/HS band event. Each hour of service is worth 10 points. You may work more than 4 hours, however no more than 40 points can be obtained towards a letter jacket.
2. Participate in all Band Contests during the year.
3. No absence from any performance unless excused by the Band Director prior to the performance.

Note: Due to the increasing numbers of Band students wishing to letter each year, the Band Director may establish alternative means of meeting the Service requirements. Those students who cannot work in the concession stand on Tuesday or Thursday nights should check with the Band Director during football season to obtain alternate Service credit.

We have some great offerings for music camps this summer. Click on the flyer below for more information. These are wonderfully affordable and gets you out of the house making music with others! Summer music camps are a great way to have a different musical experience than our traditional band classes. Sign up with a friend. It is REALLY fun (parents, it gets your kid out of the house in the summer).
