FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
On Sunday 8 September we celebrate the birthday of Mary, Mother of Jesus.
In class, the children will be praying the Hail Mary or a decade of the Rosary as a special gift to Our Lady.
Mary, Mother of God, Pray For Us
Sisters of Mercy
Padbury Catholic Primary School opened in 1985, and the first Principal was Sister Carmel Wringe, a Mercy nun. As such our school is based upon the charism and ethos of the Mercy Sisters.
During the last week of term, we will be celebrating Mercy Week with a liturgy and learning about the Mercy Values. We will also learn about Catherine McAuley (pictured) who established the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy.
Who are the Mercy Sisters? Throughout rural and urban Australia, in Papua New Guinea and internationally, our Sisters and partners in Mercy, minister to people with no voice and those seeking justice at home and beyond. Padbury Catholic Primary School seeks to support the Sisters in their mission. In week 10 we will be fundraising for Mercy Works who are the charity branch of the Mercy Sisters.
Our Year Six students are busy preparing the Celebration Day to which all year levels are invited to take part. Please see more information in the newsletter.
Mercy Values
Daily we strive to live out the values outlined by the Sisters of Mercy -
Mercy: Be thoughtful, warm and respectful in all you do and say
Compassion: Show you care for others in your words and actions
Justice: Treat everyone fairly and equally
Dignity: Show respect to everyone – we are all made in the image of God
Excellence: Always be your best and do your best
Hospitality: Be welcoming, friendly and inclusive in all you say and do
Stewardship: Let us take care of everything God has given us
Service: Make a positive difference in the life of others
Athletics Carnival
This week we have had a busy sport week with jumps and throws on Monday and our school Athletics Carnival today. I would like to thank Mr Hignett for all his preparatory work as so much goes on behind the scenes which we do not see. We are all so appreciative of this.
Thank you to all the staff for assisting throughout the whole day and to parents for coming and supporting their children and cheering them on! A special thanks to our Year Six leaders for stepping up and assisting in the bays and organising the children for races with the bay teachers, you are superstars!
Competitors and factions demonstrated great sportsmanship, especially encouraging each other on. True PCPS spirit shining through!
We will have to wait til next week to see who is the overall winning faction due to a delay with one of our jumps and throws days.
Edudance
Edudance concerts are coming next week! The children have enjoyed their dance lessons this term and are keen to show off their skills at the concerts. Big thanks to Ms Capriotti for co ordinating Edudance and for all the time involved to ensure the programme has run so smoothly.
P&F Father's Day Breakfast
A huge thanks to co-ordinator Sarah Knox and her team of helpers for an outstanding effort in ensuring that all the food was prepared and cooked up ready for hungry families at our P&F Father's Day Breakfast last week.
It was wonderful to see the PCPS community spirit well and truly alive as so many dads, grandfathers, father figures, special people in our lives and mums attended the breakfast with their children.
The Year 3 students entertained us in the hall with a wonderful assembly, showcasing their numerous talents. Their dads would have been very proud seeing them on stage as an identical clone of themselves!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Bike Games Afternoon
There is an upcoming bike event on the PCPS oval that your child (Year 3, 4 and 5 only) is welcome to participate in. We hope it will be a success! The event will take place on Friday, 13 September (Week 9) from around lunchtime - depending on numbers.
The school has registered as a Your Move school, which is a free program that provides information and support to help schools and children find healthier, more active ways to get around. They work with schools, workplaces and individuals to help them spend less time in the car and more time enjoying their community and environment.
By running this event, we are promoting riding to school with friends, being healthy and having fun with bikes. Please know that students will not be racing their bikes, so they will be safe. All children are welcome to scooter or walk to school on the 13th September; however, scooters will not be able to participate in the activities. Please see the link below which will allow you to RSVP to the event if you would like your child to participate.

CURRICULUM
Edudance
Our Edu-Dance concerts are fast approaching!
The first concert will take place on Tuesday, 10th of September for all Orange classes.
Our second concert will take place on Thursday, 12th of September for all White classes.
All concerts start at 2:15pm sharp in the Hall.
On the day of the concerts, the school oval will be open at 1.45pm for parking and 2 teachers will direct traffic on the oval. Please do not arrive earlier than this, as children will be playing on the oval.
We remind all families that the staff carpark bays are NOT to be used and to leave the parking straight outside Administration for elderly people and those with ACROD stickers. You can always drop your family members off and then proceed down to the oval to park your vehicle.
The doors to the hall will not open until just before the concert. From 1:45pm onwards, you are asked to assemble in a queue in the undercover area and after all the children are seated in the hall, one of the doors to the foyer will be opened and 20 people at a time will enter and be seated, under the guidance of the teachers.
Seats are not to be saved and young children need to be seated on a parent’s lap. Also, siblings attending school, who are not at the concert performing, are not to be taken out of class to attend.
There will be teachers in the undercover area and hall to facilitate this event.
We hope you enjoy our 2024 Edu-Dance Concerts!

Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Festival has concluded, and the final Concert and Award presentation will be held on Monday 9th September at the Marist Auditorium, Newman College. Tickets are available through the Catholic Arts website.
The performance opportunities the students experience through participating in the Festival are an important part of the Arts curriculum. Over time the students experience a variety of venues, types of performance and develop their confidence and understanding of what is expected. Congratulations to all the students who participated this year and a special mention to those who received an Award. The certificates will arrive before the end of the term.

One Big Voice
One Big Voice 2024 was held at the RAC Arena and was an amazing event for the students in Years 4 and 6. Congratulations to all who participated, you were amazing! We were so proud of the six Padbury CPS students chosen for special roles, you all performed with style and confidence. It was a very special moment for everyone when Shristi sang the National Anthem so beautifully at the start of the show. The students have summed up the experience with their comments below.
I loved EVERYTHING! I loved learning the songs, learning the actions, performing on the ground and on the stage, and I especially loved being a compere! (Tayla Yr 6)
When I was on the stage for ‘Cloudy Day’, it looked cool when we pointed to the sky and there were kids pointing in three different directions. (Milla Yr 6)
I felt extremely excited, nervous, proud and very confident. Having a solo was very nerve-racking but I was also very excited at the same time. (Shristi Yr 6)
I got to sing ‘Yellow’ on stage in front of everyone and it made me feel very special. (Ella Yr 6)
