EPSD9 Community Newsletter
22-23 School Year, Welcome Back!
We are excited to start the 22-23 school year and we look forward to welcoming students back from summer break!
School begins on Tuesday, September 6th for grades 1st - 12th. Please visit your school's website or contact the front office for specific information on Pre-K, Kindergarten, and other programs that utilize a soft start. All of our schools are accessible through the EPSD9 website using the "Our Schools" button.
As we approach the new school year, we want to ensure that our students, families, and community are aware of the following EPSD9 updates and reminders.
2022/23 Eagle Point School District 5th-12th Grade Standards-Based Teaching, Learning & Grading Policy and Practices
The primary purpose of grading is to effectively communicate student achievement toward specific standards at a certain point in time. A grade should reflect what a student knows and is able to do.
Students in 5th-12th Grades will follow the EPSD9 Standards-Based Teaching, Learning & Grading Policy and Practices (SBTL&G) for the 22-23 school year. EPSD9 SBTL&G policies and practices focus on teaching the Oregon State Curriculum Standards for assessment and learning to ensure Student College and Career readiness.
We have been working all summer to prepare staff for this change and we know it will benefit our students and families as it is more clearly defined. Please take a moment to review this important information with your student. If you have questions, please contact your student’s school.
New District Website and School Sites
We are pleased to announce that the District 9 website and school sites have been redesigned for enhanced communication. Each school has its own new website with specific information about that school. Please check YOUR SCHOOLS Website first, for the most current and up-to-date information. We hope the new webpage design is more user-friendly and spotlights important school information.
We welcome your feedback and hope you share it with our Communications Supervisor Dean MacInnis at macinnisd@eaglepnt.k12.or.us
Our District Priorities
EPSD9 recognizes that academic gaps exist in each grade level. We commit to raising the achievement level for all students using a growth model and will continue to work to identify barriers that might prevent them from reaching grade level success.
EPSD9 will create a highly focused culture of exploration and learning through opportunities that encourage students K-12 to identify and pursue the college and career pathways they desire.
EPSD9 will partner with the community to ensure all students and staff are supported through social emotional learning systems and integrated with multi-tiered systems of support.
EPSD9 will support each and every student in our district, their individual strengths and weaknesses. We will commit to providing them a safe and student centered learning environment building relationships with trust and integrity, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
COVID19:
Oregon school district’s, including EPSD9, enter this school year with mitigation strategies now included in their Communicable Disease planning. Educational decisions including the mode of instruction (in-person, virtual etc.) have been returned to the local school board in consultation with the local health authority. The current state and county data indicate COVID remains in our population but at a much lower level of infection and hospitalization than the prior two years. The BA.5 variant is by far the most dominant with projections currently in decline.
*This guidance for COVID-19 and other diseases has not changed since last Spring.
