Upcoming Skilled Trades Event for Students
Calling all students interested in pursuing a career in Skilled Trades. There is a local event happening on Saturday Dec 7th with a day full of workshops and resources for HVAC careers! This event includes a resource fair with industry professionals who will provide information about potential career paths and workshops led by experts in the field. The PHCC Academy of San Diego invites high school students and families to join.

Workshops:
Plumbing Isometric Drawings (10 AM - 11 AM)
Learn how to read and understand isometric drawings necessary for the PHCC Journeyman exam.
Instructor: Rick Garcia, a seasoned instructor with PHCC San Diego.HVAC Blueprints (12 PM - 1 PM)
Discover how to read and interpret the most common HVAC Blueprints.
Instructor: Jon Murphey, a Master HVAC Technician with extensive teaching experience.

What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship training is a job! It consists of:
1) Combination of On-The-Job Training All registered apprentices would become full-time employees of a company and learning their trade on a daily basis. Since apprentices are employees, they are earning income while they are learning.
2) Related Education Apprentices may attend classes
3) Need reliable transportation. Driving to the job site and training centers.
4) Program Length - a few months to 5 years depending on the trade.
AGC Apprenticeship
The AGC Apprenticeship Program is accepting applications on a continuous basis for its open shop (non-union) apprenticeship program in the following crafts:
• CARPENTER
• CEMENT MASON
• DRYWALL FINISHER
• DRYWALL LATHER
• HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
• LABORER
• PAINTER
Minimum Requirements:
Age: 18 years of age
Education: high school diploma
Physical: Good physical condition (physical exam and drug test may be required).
Transportation: Must be able to consistently get to and from work and school.

What is Apprenticeship?
- The apprenticeship program combines work experience with formal classroom instruction, received paid on-the-job training with an employer and attend class two nights a week.
- All classes are affiliated with Chabot College and apprentices receive college credits, their tuition fee is free.
- Apprentices receive regular pay increases as they advanced through the three or four year programs, as well as medical benefits. After successfully completing the program, they enter the work force as a state recognized Journey Level Construction Craftsperson in their chosen field.
Opportunities are currently available for training positions. Requirements to enroll are:
- You must be 18 years or older
- Legally able to work in the United States
- Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.,
- Electrical applicants must have completed a course in algebra with a ‘C’ or better.
- You must complete an application and pass the written entrance test, followed by an interview and drug test.

ETI Apprenticeship
Through ETI - Apprentices work during the day at training assignments with contractors (employers), who pay the apprentice directly for time worked. Apprentices may be sent to work anywhere in San Diego and Imperial counties. Apprentices attend school two nights per week two semesters during the year (ETI operates on a trimester year). Our apprenticeship classes are credited through Palomar College, San Marcos, California. All classes are held in classrooms and labs at our training facility in San Diego and/or Imperial Valley for Inside wiring electrical and telecommunications/sound technician.

Iron Wall Security

Commercial Inside Wireman, Residential Wireman, and Low Voltage (Sound and Communication Installer: Voice Data Video and Fire Life Safety).
- 5-year commitment (Classroom & Paid On-The-Job Training)
- A generous health & welfare plan that includes Medical, Dental, Pension Plan, and Life Insurance.
- Starting hourly base wages range from minimum wage to $22.00 or more depending on the type of work and location. Commercial apprentices can expect to earn up to $45.00 or more per hour in their 5th year of apprenticeship depending on the type of work and location.
