College and Career Services
Succeeding in college/workplace is more than completing day-to-day tasks. Here in Methacton, we focus on career readiness as a crucial factor in preparing all students with their transition from school to college/workplace.
Leading this effort is Dr. Shab Maffei, a proud Methacton alum and the district’s K-12 Career Counselor. She supports students from kindergarten through 12th grade in exploring and planning their future careers and educational paths. She provides guidance on career options, future preparation, skill development, and personal growth. She oversees two high school courses focused on career preparation as well as facilitates a Career Advisory Council where we seek input from esteemed leaders in business, industry and post-secondary institutions to refine our programs, curriculum, and school-to-work opportunities.
Dr. Maffei publishes a quarterly "Career Spotlight" newsletter highlighting valuable insights and updates K-12 Career Counselor Page.
Whether it is a noble path towards one of our nation’s armed forces, or right into the workforce, trade school, or college, Methacton School District integrates career counseling into the school curriculum to ensure all students are well-prepared for future educational and career opportunities – for life after Methacton.
One way we help students and parents navigate this crucial process is through the College and Career Guide . This is a comprehensive resource developed by the high school counseling department to support students and parents in planning their post-secondary paths. This guide provides essential information and guidance on:
● College Applications: How to research colleges, understand application processes, write effective personal statements, and meet deadlines.
● Career Exploration: Resources for exploring various career options, including internships, job shadowing opportunities, and information on different industries.
● Standardized Testing: Preparation for standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT, including test dates, registration processes, and strategies.
● Financial Aid: Information on scholarships, grants, and other financial aid options, including application procedures and cost management.
● Academic Planning: Advice on course selection, advanced placement options, and maintaining a strong academic record to support college and career goals.
● Skill Development: Tips and resources for developing essential skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, and professional communication.
In collaboration with the secondary school counselors, this guide ensures that all students are informed about the wide range of future opportunities available to them. Counselors work closely with students and utilize this guide to help them navigate their educational and career planning effectively. Whether you are a high school parent or your child has just started elementary school, it is never too early to start having career conversations with your child. Please use this guide to help you with the conversation with your child.
Dr. Maffei is always seeking to enhance community partnerships and engage the school community. For those interested in supporting these initiatives, participating in K-12 career advisory meetings (held in the fall and spring), or volunteering for career days, the high school job fair, the mobile career fair for elementary schools, or hosting internships, please reach out to her at smaffei@methacton.org.
Methacton High School Campus Planning - Survey
The Methacton School District has long enjoyed a tradition of excellence in education and community involvement in our schools. The district operates 7 school buildings to educate students in grades K-12. The Methacton High School has served our school community since 1961. The building is projected to need an estimated $69M in replacements in the next 5 years.
The campus and facility needs have substantiated the need to develop a comprehensive campus plan considering parking, traffic, aesthetics, accessibility, safety, pool and auditorium limitations/issues, hallway movement, room size/availability/flexibility/climate, building layout, classroom equipment, and pending program developments.
To begin work on the development of this comprehensive plan, the district organized students, staff, and community members into the Methacton High School Campus Planning Committee. The committee met on several occasions in the fall of 2023 and developed 63 recommendations for the Board of School Directors consideration. In August 2024, the district unveiled 3 concepts for the construction of a new high school.
These concepts can be found here:
