Mohegan End Of Year Update 6/11/24
June 11th Update
Happy Summer Vacation! Today will be my last Mohegan Update for a few weeks. I want to thank all the parents for a wonderful year at Mohegan School. Thanks to your dedication and support, we had a very successful year.
FIELD DAY
Field Day was a huge success! The weather was great, the kids had fun, and the parents beat the 4th graders in kickball! I want to thank all the parents who helped run the events and then helped clean up. Special thanks to Mr. Napoli for organizing such a fun day. We all appreciate the extra time he put in to make this day a success.
CELEBRATIONS
I want to congratulate the Pre-K 4 year olds, Kindergarteners and 4th Graders who all had their moving up ceremonies last week. Special thanks to the teachers for organizing those wonderful and memorable events. We are so proud of our students!
SHELTON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (SEDC) CONTEST WINNERS
Congratulations to Mohegan students who were selected as SEDC Art contest winners. This is a city wide contest for students in Grades 2-4. Of the 5 pieces of art selected by Mrs. Dyke, 3 of our students placed in the city! The winners are:
Honorable Mention - Kelcey Green (Grade 4)
3rd Place - Katherine Larson (Grade 2)
1st Place - Penelope Hoffman (Grade 4)
Great job!

EMAIL LISTS AND UPDATES
I will be emailing out updates occasionally throughout the summer. I’ll include a few reminders about upcoming events in my summer emails, but the communication will not be weekly. My normal weekly updates won’t start until a week or two before school starts.
Outgoing 4th grade families - you may continue to receive Mohegan updates until your students have rolled over into 5th grade in our computer database. This may take a little time so I apologize in advance if you continue to get my updates for a period of time during the summer.
SUMMER WORK
While summer is a great time for students to have fun and gain life experiences, it is also important that students maintain some of the academic skills they worked on this year. Students are asked to complete the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge and Shelton’s Summer Math Challenge. A letter explaining these initiatives can be found on the district website under the Teaching and Learning tab. A link for the letter is also here. All paperwork needs to be submitted to school at the beginning of the year for a special reward.
SUPPLY LISTS
Supply lists for next year can be found on the Mohegan School website under the Academics Tab here.
CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND BUS ROUTES
Classroom assignments and bus routes will not be sent out until a week before school starts.
BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS
A list of the Board of Education meetings is listed at the end of this newsletter. Public comment is available at all regular Board of Education Meetings.
PTO NEWS
I want to thank all the PTO volunteers this year for all they have done for Mohegan Elementary School. It is a pleasure working with such a dedicated group of parents.
COMMUNITY NEWS
Please see the community fliers from this week (please note: the two fliers go together).
I look forward to another successful year next year. Enjoy your summer and I will see you back at Mohegan on Wednesday, August 28th!
