12th Grade News
FAFSA opens on December 1, 2024. We encourage every student who is applying to college or trade schools to complete this- you never know what money is available tied to scholarships that need to have the FAFSA complete. Only use this link:

Seniors- Counselors will be submitting MID YEAR reports to ALL colleges you applied to by the second week of February. You don't need to do anything on your end for that to happen!

11th Grade News
Junior Interviews Are Coming Soon!
All juniors MUST participate in a junior interview on December 5 or 6. This is a graduation requirement. English teachers will be working on resumes with each student. If you do not take English at Glenelg, your interview time/date will be sent to you and there is a resume workshop available on November 20 during glad time. Sign up in Naviance.
Counselors will be in English classes on 11/18 and 11/19 to go over the Junior Interview process!
YES!! Take the SAT!
Colleges are re-evaluating their test optional policy every year. We recommend you take the SAT/ACT to ensure if you need a score, you have one. Here is the link for upcoming SAT dates:

Interested in taking an HCC class during senior year?
JumpStart Dual Enrollment Opportunities and Process
HCPSS has an abundance of opportunities for students, including the dual-enrollment program, JumpStart, with Howard Community College (HCC). JumpStart provides students the opportunity to take classes either at their home high school or on the HCC campus for college credit. In this session, students will learn about the JumpStart program, the application process, transcript implications and how this experience can connect to students' post high school plans.

Naviance
Naviance is an online platform that all HCPSS students use for college planning and career assessment tools. ALL students have a Naviance account.
For Student Access:
- Go to your HCPSS.ME
-Scroll down to the Naviance tab
Have fun looking through all the resources and features that Naviance has to offer!
For Parent Access:
Did you know that you can ghost into your child's Naviance account? This allows you to partner with your child and their school counselor to help with planning for life after high school. Naviance is used to help student's discovery interests and strengths. It is also useful in searching for careers, course planning, researching pathways to careers, and college processes.
To access you can go to the bottom of the Glenelg High School website [ghs.hcpss.org], scroll to the bottom to essential applications, and click on Naviance. If you are not able to access, please email your child's counselor and we send you the login information.
Help! How do I study for high school classes?
9th graders almost always struggle with HOW TO STUDY!
1- The first tip is to go directly to your teachers to ask about study prep for their tests.
2- Find at least one study buddy in each of your classes.
3- Review notes/topics from class each night.
4- Don't procrastinate.
