Wow! We are off and running this year at Lugoff Elementary! Thank you so, so much for all that you have done so far to make this such a smooth transition. I would like to thank the Lugoff Fire Department for providing traffic assistance each day. As you may remember, we were not slated to have anyone help us with this, but we are so thankful that they are.
As a reminder to our AM car riders, only use the right lane until 7:10 AM so that my faculty and staff can get into the building to receive the students. Beginning at 7:10, both lanes may be used. Also, please be courteous at the merge sign and alternate letting cars in. If you need a refresher, here is a copy of our car rider video to view. https://youtu.be/LdjER5_1wLA?si=wC9-GE5ctNTMqFya
Finally, I almost feel silly saying this, but please do not drive on the sidewalks.
Car Rider and Walker Tags
If you do not have this year's car rider tags, now is the time to get them. The link is https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mtduKcDRSYThAjFXkgDwEbhOyqEIdjM1ZmnIOWXBzJ4/edit#settings. We have noticed that several of you either do not have them, or are using last year's. Beginning Friday, August 16, 2024, anyone with the wrong tag will be sent to the front office to be identified. This is a protocol that we utilize to help maintain safety.
Walkers
Families, in order for your child to qualify as being a walker, they must walk off of our school campus and enter your car. Parking in our parking lots, loading docks, curbs, etc. does not count. I know that our car rider line lasts for approximately 30 minutes in the afternoon, but the above mentioned locations are not designated for walkers. In advance, thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Summer Reading Passports
Did you remember to complete your "Kershaw Community Passport" for logging summer reading minutes and completing other fun activities around our Kershaw County community this summer? If you did, bring your passport by the LES Library and Mrs. Brewer will make sure you are invited to our summer reading celebration! If you have lost your passport or forgot to complete one, don't worry, it's still officially summer! Just visit www.kcsdschools.net/read for a paper log you can complete and return. For every 30 minutes read, students could earn 1 point. If you earned 10 points, you can attend the LES Summer Reading celebration! You have until August 30th to turn in your passport or log to Mrs. Brewer.
Six Houses, One School
HOUSE SORTING-
We kicked off our second year of our House System Friday as new students and our Kindergarteners were sorted into their Houses! These students received a House shirt after the sorting. Returning students who need a new shirt can purchase one using the order form that was sent home today. We will have another order in September for t-shirts as well as sweatshirts and other House items.
BUSINESS SPONSORS- The House Committee is also seeking Business Sponsors this year. If you have a local business that can help sponsor our fun House Activities, I have attached the House Business Sponsor form below. We will publish our LES Community Directory in October, so if you would like to have your business included, please return the form and payment by August 30th.

Hello LES families! I recently reviewed the health information parents/guardians submitted for their students during the registration process, noting reported health concerns. Some students’ forms indicated allergies, asthma, seizures, etc. that may require emergency medications to be provided by you, and brought to school by an adult along with the appropriate KCSD signed medication forms. In addition, if you reported a food allergy, and your student is eating from the cafeteria, the Meal Accommodation form will need to be completed. This provides the cafeteria staff the necessary information to withhold the reported food allergen and provide a substitute item for your child. These forms and other emergency action plans were sent home with a letter from me last week. Please check your student’s folder and book bag for this information. Next, request your child’s health care provider to complete and sign the appropriate forms, and return these to me along with your signature. All prescription medication must be supplied in the pharmacy labeled box. If you did not receive these forms and need them, or have any questions, please contact me or go to this link for health forms: www.kcsdschools.net/forms
Thank you! Annah J. Deal, BSN, RN, LES School Nurse
Parents/Guardians' Rights Notification
Parents/Guardians in the Kershaw County School District have the right to learn about the following qualifications of their child's teacher: state licensure requirements for the grade level and content areas taught, the current licensing status of your child's teacher, and baccalaureate/graduate certification/degree. You may also request the qualifications of an instructional paraprofessional who serves your student in a Title I program or if your school operates a school wide Title I program. Parents/Guardians may request this information from the Office of the Superintendent by calling Dan Matthews, Chief Academic Officer, 2029 West DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020. The Kershaw County School District ensures that parents will be notified in writing if their child has been assigned, or has been taught by a teacher for four or more consecutive weeks who is not considered highly qualified.
