Back to School Edition - Thursday, August 15, 2024
Message from New RAMS Principal - Heidi George
Dear Roseville Area Middle School Staff, Students, and Families,
I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new principal of Roseville Area Middle School. My name is Heidi George, and I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to join the school community at RAMS. I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you and embark on this journey together.
First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for welcoming me into your school. I am truly honored to be a part of such a vibrant and dedicated community. As I step into this role, I am eager to listen and learn from all of you. Your hopes, dreams, and aspirations for Roseville Area Middle School are of utmost importance to me, and I am committed to working collaboratively with staff, students, and families to make them a reality.
Partnership and collaboration will be at the heart of our work together. I firmly believe that by working together, we can create an environment that fosters growth, learning, and success for all students. I value the expertise and unique perspectives that each member of our community brings, and I am committed to creating opportunities for open dialogue and shared decision-making, a truly strength-based for both staff and students.
One of my top priorities is to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging and is supported in their learning journey. I believe that when students feel safe, valued, and connected, they are more likely to thrive academically and personally. I am dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive school culture where all students can flourish and reach their full potential.
As we move forward, I am eager to hear your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions for the next steps of Roseville Area Middle School. Your input will be invaluable in shaping our shared vision and goals. Together, we will work towards creating an environment that promotes academic excellence, social-emotional well-being, and a joy for learning.
I am truly excited to begin this new chapter with all of you. Please know that my door is always open, and I am here to support you in any way that I can. Let us embark on this journey together, as we continue to create a school community that is inclusive, supportive, and dedicated to the success of every student. WE GOT THIS!
Learning for ALL,
Heidi George

RAMS Office Hours & Phone Calls
Our student contact day switchboard/office hours are from 7:30am to 3:30pm. If you need to speak to someone after 3:30pm during the school year, you may call the Activity Office at 651-482-5290. There is typically someone at that number until 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
During the course of an average school day we receive multiple calls from parents who wish to talk immediately to their students. RAMS policy is to not interrupt class. If a student forgets something like their iPad, homework or lunch, it can be dropped off at the main office. The student can then come and pick it up after their next class.
*Please note that the last month before school starts the building office support staff is often working in different areas of the building and away from the phone in preparation for the new school year. Please leave a voicemail at 651-482-5284 or email Linsey Owen and she will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Reporting Absences
Parent/Guardian should call 651-482-5281 or email 📨 ramsattendance@isd623.org each day the student is absent.
When leaving your message, please include the student name, grade, reason for absence, your name and a contact number.
If unable to call or email, send a note when the student returns to school.
Leaving Early/Appointments
We cannot stress enough the importance of students being on time for learning. Please make every effort to get your child to school so they can be in class before 8:05am. Students should bring a note to the office BEFORE school starts in the morning. Students will be given a pass to leave class at the appropriate time and can sign themselves out in the office. Students should sign back into the office when returning.
Tardy To School
Students should sign in the office when arriving late to school. Students should have a note or a call from a parent/guardian. Doctor/Dental appointments should provide a clinic note for absences.
Vacations
If you are taking a student out of school for two or more days, please send a note or contact the office one week prior. The student will be given a “Leave Form” for teachers to sign and use to get homework.
Early Student Arrival
School starts at 8:05am. Students who do not ride the bus should arrive at school no earlier than 7:45am.

To register for a sport, a student MUST have an updated Sports Physical Form (within the last 3 years) entered into the registration program by the RAMS Activities Office. These physicals must note that the student is cleared by their physician to play sports.
Blank Sport Physical Forms are available online HERE and in the RAMS and RAHS Activity Offices. Sports physical forms can be emailed to 📨 Tanysha Scott or 📨 Susan Garland or dropped off in the activities office at RAMS.

Athletic Registration
All student athletes will need to register for the sport they would like to play online HERE.
Registration steps:
- Submit a completed sports physical to the RAMS Activities Office
- RAMS Activities Office will release the online registration after receiving the sports physical
- Families can register and pay for sports participation HERE.
- All information should be reviewed by the student and parent/guardian before signing.
- Please contact the RAMS Athletics and Activities office if you need assistance registering.
*The family maximum for RAMS/RAHS athletics for the year is $600.00.
Refund Policy
In case of a major injury or a move out of the district during the first half of the season, 100% of the fee will be refunded. No refund will be granted after the midpoint of each season. There will be no refunds after the first game for athletes who quit voluntarily or who are removed from participation for attendance or other disciplinary reasons.
Reduced Fees
Families who qualify for Educational Benefits are eligible for reduction of athletic fees upon application. Education Benefits Applications are done online HERE. Further financial assistance is available as needed.
Practices/Games
Practices and games are typically held every school day after school between 3:00-5:00pm on Monday through Thursday. Practices are typically not held on Friday's. On game days, students will be playing past 5:00pm and will require a family member to pick them up after the game has finished.
Transportation
Transportation will be provided to and from all away games, but athletes will need to provide their own transportation home from RAMS on game nights. This also pertains to home games as they end after the activity buses have left.
Before and After School Activities
A list of available extracurricular activities will be sent out in our weekly family email. The selection of activities varies each year depending on what is proposed by staff and members of the community. Students must register and pay the fees associated with each activity before participating. Activities may have different fees, depending on length and other expenses.
Some activities meet in the morning before school, but most will take place after school. This makes it very difficult for a student to be in both a sport and an after-school activity during the same session. A student can jump into some activities mid-session when their sport season ends.
Activities that have been offered in the past:
- Science Club
- Latinx Club
- Hmong Club
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Morning Choir
- Jazz Band
- RAMS Theater (see below for more information on the 24-25 season)
- Pottery Club
- Painting Club
- Anime Club
- Chess Club
Anyone in the community who is interested in offering an extra-curricular activity may contact
📨 Tanysha Scott or 📨 Susan Garland at 651-482-5290 for more information.
Unity Center
Unity meets Monday through Thursday from 2:40pm-5:00pm and runs from late September/October through late May/early June. There is no cost and after school snacks are provided. Regular attendance is required. Watch for registration materials in September.

RAMS offers transportation within district 623 for students who stay after school to participate in athletics, activities, academic help or detention. A bus pass is required to board any activity bus. Students staying after for academic reasons should request 1-day pass from their teachers, which they give to the driver when boarding. Students staying after for regular activities like sports or theater should request a seasonal pass from the coach or director. If the seasonal pass is lost, a replacement can be obtained from the adult supervisor of the activity.
Students who are not directly involved in a supervised activity are expected to leave school at the end of the day. Students are not allowed to leave RAMS property and then return to school to ride the activity buses.
Maps of the activity bus routes are posted by the Activity Office and Media Center. There are no predetermined stops. Drivers follow set routes and pull over at safe locations when asked. The buses leave from the front of the school at the following times Monday through Friday:
Bus 1, 4:10pm = To RAHS and then the west end of the district
Bus 2, 4:20pm = East area of the district
Bus 3, 4:20pm = Middle area of the district
There are also two late activity buses Monday through Thursday. There are no late activity buses on Fridays. Online bus maps
Bus 1, 5:15pm = West end of district
Bus 2, 5:15pm = East end of district

FALL PLAY: "Caught in the Web" - by Brian D. Taylor
SYNOPSIS:
Phone-obsessed teens Sarah and Derek have heard their parents’ cautionary nagging before. “One of these days you’re gonna get sucked up into that phone!” And then one day... it happened!
The two teens find themselves trapped in the internet and on a wild adventure through the World Wide Web! Memes, viral videos, games, email, dating sites, and social media come alive onstage, including Fruit Ninja, The Dress, Distracted Boyfriend and Jealous Girlfriend, Harambe, and many more. And of course, it wouldn’t be the internet without lots of cats and a dancing baby!
Travel through the World Wide Web with Twitter, Miserable Cat, and Sirilexa as they team up with Derek and Sarah to find The Google, who can help them in their search for a way home. But The Google informs them of some bad news: their parents are also caught in the web and need saving!
