Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
A reminder that the first quarter is approaching its end on November 1st. If you have any concerns about your child's grades, please don't hesitate to contact their teacher. Should you wish to meet with your child's teachers, feel free to reach out to the Team Leader to schedule a meeting.
We're thrilled to kick off several of our before and after school clubs! As we get everything organized, I’ll be sending out ParentSquare updates with Google Forms for you to sign your child up if they’re interested in participating. This newsletter includes sign-up forms for three clubs, and more will be shared via ParentSquare soon. We hope these opportunities spark your child’s interest and encourage them to get involved beyond the regular school day at EHMS.
Best,
Christina & Emily

A Look Into Our Panther Community
Eighth-grade students kicked off their dystopian book club unit, diving into various popular series within the genre. Each student chose a series that intrigued them, forming small reading groups to explore, discuss, and write about the themes of dystopian fiction. Among the most popular selections are “The Hunger Games,” “The Maze Runner,” and “Uglies.” Students will read two books from their series by the end of the unit.
Sixth-grade students have just finished their first unit on Area. They are now starting Unit 2, which introduces Ratios. In this unit, students will learn key concepts like ratio, rate, and equivalent ratios. They will represent ratios as expressions and use double number line diagrams, tape diagrams, and tables to illustrate equivalent ratios. Students will apply these concepts and representations to reason about situations involving color mixtures, recipes, unit pricing, and constant speed.
The Sandy Hook Promise and SAVE programs are promoting all schools to embrace diversity and be inclusive by promoting peace and helping to put an end to violence. EHMS was part of this and recognized National Safe School Week. Our Panther Ambassadors planned a variety of activities for the week like wear your hat backwards, Orange and Purple Day and PJ Day!

Nurse's Corner
Friendly reminders from your school nurse:
*School field trips are starting to pop up! Please make sure I have your child's medication/s in the health office so that they may participate.
*There are lots of germs going around right now so please remember to keep your child home if they are not feeling well. Even if it's just for the morning so you can reevaluate and send them to school if they have improved. Reminder that you should be fever-free for 24 hours to return to school WITHOUT fever reducing medication. Students must be able to keep food and fluids down (without vomiting or diarrhea) in order to return.
Thank you for your continued support!
Attendance Reminder
Per the East Hampton Board of Education’s Attendance Policy and Connecticut statute, parents and guardians may only approve the first 9 absences of the school year with a parent note. Absences 10 and above can only be excused with further documentation and under specific circumstances.
In addition, if a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
A phone call is appreciated, but only an email to our attendance inbox or written note can officially excuse absence 1 through 9. Below is our attendance email:
Note: Between the school name and the word Attendance is a underscore ( _ )

School Based Health
Happy New Year! Did you resolve to be more on top of your and your child’s health this year? Here’s an easy solution: Sign your child up for School-Based Health Care. Your child’s school works with Community Health Center, Inc.’s School-Based Health Care program to provide health services to your child during the school day. This means they won’t miss as much class and you don’t need to miss work to support their health care needs. Learn more about the services offered at your child’s school and enroll today at SBHC1.com!
