The Film Festival is coming! - Book Now
This week there is a limit of 4 seats per family at the evening show. This is to ensure that everyone gets a chance to have family attend the evening performance which will be something special with table service, food and drinks included. Think premiere! The matinee’s do not have a limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased so you can purchase these in bulk.
From Friday, ticket sales will open up for everyone to purchase whichever tickets are available.
Our tamariki have worked really hard on this work and are excited to share it with you.
Frequently asked questions
If I book tickets for my children during the day, do I pick them up from school?
Yes, the film festival is different from the Production last year. All tamariki will be at school for a normal school day. If you would like to take your child to the film festival during the day, everyone attending will need a ticket. Tamariki should be signed out of the office as per usual process and taken to the event.
How long is each session?
Each session is about an hour and a half with an intermission
Do I return my children back to school after the morning session?
This is a decision for you to make. If you do, please sign them back in through the office.
Which films will be shown?
All teams have up to 15 minutes of film time. These are a combination of shorts and longer pieces. Films from each team will be spread throughout the entire session. Teams will know and be able to share with you which films they are putting through.
Why are the prices for the matinee and the evening showings different?
The matinee ticket is for entry only. Popcorn, candy floss, drinks and lollies can be purchased on entry. Seating is in rows and all tickets (adults and children) are $5.
The evening event is a more formal event. This is a chance to dress up for a premiere! There is table seating and we will serve you snacks, a special drink and an ice cream, all included in the ticket price. You will also be able to purchase popcorn and candy floss should you wish. All tickets are $20, including children.
All tickets cover the cost of the venue, furniture and tech hire.
What does the money raised go towards?
Most of the entry fee goes towards running the event. If any extra money is raised, we will put it towards the mindfulness area.
How are tamariki involved in the event?
All tamariki are involved in some way. They are script writers, actors, producers, directors and film techs. They are also marketers, ticket designers, seating hosts, servers and cooks. We love the way that everyone is so enthusiastically involved!

Teacher in the Paddock Term 4 2023
This is the final opportunity for students to attend the Teacher in the Paddock’s One Day Farm/Forest School Programme for this year.
This is an outdoor interactive Education Programme, where children can be children with nature, the farm and family life. There is the opportunity for interaction with animals, gardening and food production, and learning through the exploration of forest and wetlands. As part of a small group, children have one on one exposure to daily life on a small farm. They will acquire life skills that will give them confidence and resilience for the challenges in today’s world. Operating during school time, this programme provides an opportunity to break from school one day a week and connect with nature and each other.
The programme will run one day a week from week 2 to week 9 17th October to 5th December (inclusive) and costs $515 per child. It is suitable for all ages. Children come to school at their usual time and get taken out to the farm by minibus and return before the end of the school day.
For more information about the programme please visit https://teacherinthepaddock.co.nz/about/. Places are limited so all expressions of interest, or any questions should be emailed to Kirsty Hudson khudson@goldensands.school.nz.
Bookings must be finalised by Wednesday 20th October 2023.
Te reo Māori wero
There are different ways to greet people in te reo Māori. Some are more formal than others.
“Tēnā koe” - greetings to one person
“Tēnā kōrua” - greetings to two people
“Tēnā koutou” - greetings to three or more people
These ones would be best to use in more formal situations or when you are introduced to new people.
“Kia ora!” - an informal greeting for any number of people
Do you know, or can you find out, what these words mean? kai, rā, whare, kaumātua, tōku, reo
Tēna koutou e te whānau, O Te Kura O Te Rito O Te Harakeke, Golden Sands School
E kore au e ngāro
He kakano ahau i ruia mai i rangiatea
NAU MAI ‘TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI’ E TATOU MA! KIA KAHA TATOU TE KORERO MĀORI. KARAWHIUA!
He aha te tikangā O tenei mo ngā ohū o Te Ao Māori i te kura O Golden Sands School? What does this mean for us at Golden Sands?
Ko Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori tēnei! It's officially Māori language week, and we are celebrating in lots of ways - big and small. A little reo goes a long way, especially when we use it with our tamariki. After all, our tamariki are the future of our Reo! Kei a ratou ngā rangatira mo apōpō!
We know that every day is Māori language day, however today we want to support the normalisation of speaking the Māori language.
Te WIki O Te Reo Māori plays a crucial role in the wider effort to revitalise and preserve the native tongue of Aotearoa.
To celebrate Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori we have set up a simple WERO (challenge) for all teachers/students and their learning communities to complete everyday.
Teachers are encouraged to also send videos of the WERO O TE RA (challenge of the day).
The WERO for all of us though is to just start the journey!
Be not anxious when revitalising your ancestral tongue, but be patient and trust the process
Like a wise person once said to me “Sometimes the goal isn't to become fluent. Sometimes the goal is to start the journey, that by the time we have mokopuna, they will be fluent” _@Reo Gems
He rerenga kōrero mō te ata _ 5 reo Māori phrases to use in the morning.
Maranga Mai _ Get up! Rise and shine!
Kahuna ō kākahu kura _ Put your school uniform on
Haere mai ki te kai _ Come and eat
Kua rite koe _ Are you ready?
Kia pai te rā _ Have a good day!
Nō mātou ki te Kura O Golden Sands _ Kia kaha tātou te korero Māori!
