News You Can Use October 8, 2024
Eastview Middle School
Dear Families,
We have parent teacher conferences this Thursday, October 10 from 4:30-7:30 and Friday, October 11 8:30am-10:30am. Last week, an email was sent with links to sign up for appointments. If you have conferences scheduled, please bring your student with you. If you were unable to schedule an appointment, but have concerns or would like feedback, please reach out directly to the teacher. As a reminder, there is no school on Friday, October 11 or Monday, October 14.
Last night, our EVMS athletics competed in two championship games. Our 7th grade girls volleyball team faced the Larson Lancers at Elgin High School. After two competitive games, our lady WOLVES won the third game and are the 7th grade girls volleyball CHAMPIONS!!!! On the other side of town, our 8th grade boys soccer team took on the Eagles of Ellis at Streamwood High School. Our boys played hard, but fell short with a score of 1-0. We are proud of ALL of our athletes!
This Friday, October 11, is the crosstown football classic between Bartlett High School at South Elgin High School. This is always a fun game for our Eastview students to attend. As a reminder, all middle school students must be accompanied by an adult and wear their ID.
Please take a moment to review this newsletter as there is important information and dates about upcoming events. If you have any questions, please reach out to me angelaginnan@u-46.org.

YOU CAN HELP CREATE RIPPLES AT EVMS!!
Just as a pebble tossed into a pond creates ripples that affect the environment around it, your donation to the Parents and Teachers at Eastview Middle School creates ripples that improve the education of our students! Funds raised directly help our teachers get the supplies and equipment they need in order to maximize instruction. PTE awards funds through "grants'' so teachers can purchase cutting edge curriculum, state of the art equipment, and a variety of other creative enrichment supplies.
Additionally the PTE uses these funds to support our talented employees during staff appreciation initiatives and additional funds are allocated toward MTSS - the program that encourages and rewards positive student behaviors!
A few things about our annual fundraising campaign:
We only do this once a year
Our fundraiser is short, only 13 days
We aren’t asking you to buy anything
These funds make a difference to our Eastview teachers!
Please help us reach our $5000 fundraising goal by donating here. The Ripple Grant Fundraising Initiative will run from now until 10/18/24.
Join the PTE Facebook page for updates on this initiative: Eastview Families
Donations of $35 or more receive a special “Eastview Wolf Pack” coupon book for your student. Coupons in the “Eastview Wolf Pack” include passes to jump to the head of the lunch at lunch, free admission to EVMS sporting events and student council events and raffle tickets to be “Principal for the Day” and win Lunch with the Principal.
Donations
Thanks to those of you who have made donations, we appreciate you!!
We are continuing to seek donations, we are in need of a few things, and we are hoping you can help! On Wednesdays, we wear college gear, but we would like to make this a post-secondary day. If you are in the trades and have shirts of your work, we will take them! If you have old college gear that you have no use for anymore, we will take them! On Friday, we wear EVMS gear for school spirit day. I like to randomly select one 7th grader, one 8th grader, and a staff member. If they are wearing EVMS wear, then they can earn a prize. Traditionally, I have received gift cards in small denominations ($5) from local businesses to give to the students. If you have any gift cards or small prizes you would like to donate, please drop them off at school.

OASIS
Did you know that EVMS has after school homework help? OASIS is an after school home work help program located in library Tuesday-Thursday 3:30-5:00pm. Students can work in a quiet setting under the supervision of faculty and staff providing assistance on homework. We even have snacks! Students who ride the bus are able to take the late bus home.
ACTIVITY BUS 🚌
Students who are bus riders and stay after school for a club/activity/sport can take the activity bus home Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. The bus arrives to EVMS at 4:45pm and departs at 5pm. Here are the stops.
School Safety Measures
As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment, Eastview will be conducting random, non-invasive searches throughout the school year in accordance with board policy and law. These searches are a proactive step towards maintaining safety and fostering an environment where learning can thrive without disruptions. They will be carried out by trained school personnel, in a manner that respects the privacy of all students. We assure you that these measures are standard safety procedures and not in response to any specific incident or concern. If a student refuses to participate in the random search, the school administration will follow the necessary steps in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Should you have any questions, please contact the school's main office.
The Daily Bulletin
In order to make the daily bulletin accessible to all, it can be found on the EVMS website under special announcements.
Cell Phone Policy
CELL PHONES SHOULD BE AWAY FOR THE DAY!
All middle schools in the district will be following the district guidelines of "AWAY FOR THE DAY" for cell phone usage. Students will not be allowed to use their cell phones during the school day, including during lunch, in the locker room or bathrooms. These district-wide middle school guidelines support classroom learning and improved culture and climate efforts for all middle school students in order to minimize distractions and help teachers create and manage a classroom and school environment conducive to learning, discussion and collaboration. It also helps protect students against bullying and/or inappropriate social media use during school hours, which are often exacerbated by cell phone access.
In accordance with our secondary cell phone guidelines, students are expected to put their silenced or powered-off cell phone in their locker upon arriving at school. Our intention is to help students create better habits when in learning environments. If students are unable to keep devices out of sight and in their lockers, teachers may provide a warning and remind/ask their students to put the phone away in their lockers or cell phone holders until the end of the period. If students do not comply and continue to engage in electronic device misuse, progressive discipline procedures will be followed. This may include, but is not limited to, the following consequences: having the student turn over his/her phone to the main office for parent pick up, or issuance of referrals resulting in detentions and other discipline-related interventions.
Parents - If you need to get a hold of your student during the day, please call the main office at 630-213-5550 and we will either relay your message or bring your student to the main office for you to speak to them directly.
School Attendance
Student attendance is critical in learning. I am thrilled to share that Eastview Middle School had the highest attendance rate of ALL the middle schools in U-46! Let's keep it up for the 24-25 school year.
If students are not present, then they miss instruction. Strong attendance has a proven impact on school success. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
Of course, we understand students become ill and may not be able to attend school. In those instances, parents must inform the school of their student's absence. You can call 630-213-5550 or email eastviewattendance@u-46.org
We expect students to be in attendance every day and ready to learn!
Say Hello to Our PTE
The 2024/2025 PTE board is off to a great start with several activities already completed. We provided the EVMS staff some mini pies and cider to celebrate the fall season, were at the Welcome Back dance and have held two Dine and Share events. Our ability to continue with our yearly events depends on support from Eastview families and we will be holding our yearly fundraising membership beginning next week on Oct 2nd. Be on the lookout for detailed announcements; we are working on some new and exciting prizes for this year!
PTE Volunteers
In addition to the open PTE board position of Co-President there are numerous ways to help the PTE get things done. These opportunities include helping plan and schedule Dine and Share events, the 8th grade graduation lawn signs and soliciting donations from local businesses. If you are able to help us with these focused, short duration activities please reach out at pte.eastview@gmail.com.
Community Advisory Council (CAC) Meetings
Each U-46 school is allowed up to 5 CAC members, Eastview currently has one seat filled so there are four open seats. This is the U-46 description of CAC participation:
As a member of the Community Advisory Council, your role is crucial in providing guidance and support to the U-46 Board of Education and Administration to ensure all students receive the best educational opportunities. CAC members serve as liaisons between their schools, the CAC, and the School District to identify children’s needs and bring ideas to the District.
