Hi all,
Huge shoutout to JV for their strong showing this weekend at the Helix Tournament. This team survived almost half a game without a goalkeeper, and won or tied all their games in regular time. Bella won the goalie skills challenge out of 12 goalies there!!! Their last game against Scripps in the semi finals was some of the best hockey I've seen this team play. Coach Makenna and I are so SO proud of this team's performance, resilience, and heart this weekend! I had other coaches and Helix staff members saying this JV team was the most spirited and seemed to be having the most fun...thanks to a small dance break captured below (unlisted video, only those with the link can watch). Thank you to all parents for volunteering and showing up for this team during a long day. Congrats to both JV and Varsity this week for winning their game against Mission Vista this week on the dreaded grass game. You've survived, it's turf from here on out.
This week is FULL of hockey! We have three big league matchups this week starting with Torrey Pines on Monday night, then San Marcos on Wednesday, and ending with Fallbrook on Friday. Varsity also has the Helix Tournament to cap off the week. Varsity is heading into their second round of league matchups undefeated and looking to continue that streak and capture the league championship!! There is NO bus on Monday because of the later start time. Tuesday's practice is shortened for the last pasta party of the year. For practice on Thursday, I'm still working out a time with the athletic director because of the football game taking place. Please everyone continue to take care of yourselves, each other, and your schoolwork.
The Helix tournament is this weekend for Varsity! The full schedule is down below and also in a previous email. I've attached the Helix rules below in a pdf format but here are some highlights:
★ 2 points for a win - 1 point for a tie - 0 points for a loss - 1 pt per goal (up to 3)
★ Teams can earn up to 15 pts max during pool play
In the case of a tie, here's how rankings will be decided:
Ranking:
1. Total Points
2. Head to head
3. Goal differential (up to +/-3 per game)
4. Goals for (maximum 3 points per game)
5. Regular set 1v1
6. Sudden victory 1v1

For Varsity, it looks like we need volunteers for:
- 1 Large Pop Up Tents (1 is already signed up, 2 would be fantastic)

As always, the full two-week schedule is down below. It's hard to believe we're heading into our final two weeks of the regular season...I'm cherishing every second of it, and I hope everyone else is too.
