On Monday, 10/3/22, the Eagles hosted the Fighting Clan of Vineland under the lights. Mother Nature was angry, regardless of the elements the game was played in the wind and rain. The Eagles dominated play and controlled the pace of the game. Despite 90% of possession, the Clan made it difficult for EHTHS to penetrate the defensive line. The game remained nil nil into the 79th minute when Freshman Lucas Cross entered the game. Waiting to enter the game, Coach Heenan called to Cross, “you know what to do,” Cross responded with a head nod and a smile. One minute later, Lucas Cross received the ball from Andres Garces and Lucas did not hesitate to let it fly. Cross’ shot screamed past the keeper and into the back of the rain soaked net. His first varsity goal proved to be the game winner. Senior Captain, Nathan Biersbach, secured the insurance goal off a set piece from 22 yards out. Biersbach calmly striked his free kick with an attitude avoiding Vinelands wall and into the left panel. The Eagles prevailed 2-0 in a big Divisional game.
In a huge Divisional game, the Eagles traveled to MIllville on Wednesday, 10/5/22. Expecting to play the game on a rain soaked field, it seemed as though Mother Nature turned the dryer on. EHTHS game up an early foul and PK, down 1 nil only 8 minutes into the game. With a lot of time left and huge implications on the line, the Eagles dug deep and never looked back. Ryan Evenson fired a shot that traveled through the hands of the keeper and off Millville’s defender into the back of the net, Eagles tied the game at one. Shortly after, Millville’s defender mis hit a clearing attempt and the ball fell onto the foot of Senior Captain, Nathan Biersbach. Biersbach seized the moment and fired the ball past the keeper and into the right panel. Nate turned to his teammates and simply said, “Carpe Diem!” The game was a physical contest, each team knowing what was on the line. EHTHS goalie, Brett Barnes made a huge save late into the second half preventing a Thunderbolt tying goal. Quickly after his save, Barnes fired a ball down the field which landed on the foot of Senior Gilmer Mendoza. Mendoza received the ball calmly, took a step and sealed the deal with a third goal. The Eagles won 3-1.
On Friday, the Eagles hosted ACIT and won 4-1. Nate Biersbach had 2 goals, Gilmer Mendoza added a header, and Matt Sanchez added one. The team improves to 11-3 overall.
