A Message from Principal Groves
Dear Blacklick Families:
We will be collecting Candy for the Troops! Do you have extra Halloween candy that you would like to donate to the U.S Military? Please send in all of your extra candy to your child’s classroom teacher by Tuesday, November 5, 2024. We will be partnering with the Buckeye Military Moms Organization out of Worthington, Ohio. This organization will be shipping the candy to US military troops.
Picture retake day is scheduled for Thursday, November 7. If you would like your child to have his/her photo retaken, please send in the photos you originally purchased. *Please notify your child's teacher if you would like your child to have his/her photo retaken. We don't want to miss anyone!
If your child was absent on our original photo day (September 13) or if your child is new to Blacklick, we will be sure that they have their photo taken on November 7.
As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL for students this Friday, November 8. Teachers will be participating in professional learning sessions on this date that focus on our new curriculum Wit and Wisdom and Bridges math.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.
Respectfully,
Kristen Groves

Scholastic Book Fair Is Coming to Blacklick!
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Blacklick!
November 13-18, 2024 will be preview days in the library. During Library class, all students will make a wish list of books, and bring it home with a flyer. Many details will be on this flyer so be sure to ask your student about it if you haven't seen it by Monday the 18th. No sales (and no money) before the 19th.
November 19-22, 2024 will be shopping days. Students who bring money to school will shop during their library class.
Students can bring cash, check (to Blacklick PTO), Scholastic e-wallet (info on website and wish list). Some students have asked about a debit card; if parents give permission, please include a note that details how much they are allowed to spend. If you would like to shop with your student during their library class, you are welcome - if you need details about when that is, feel free to contact me.
If you would like to volunteer to help, please sign up at Blacklick Book Fair Volunteers.
We will also be open from 6:00-7:30pm on Thursday, November 21 for family shopping during the Community Celebration and during the Blacklick Bazaar from 8:30-12:00 on Saturday, November 23!
Our Scholastic Book Fair website will be active from November 13-23.
You are under no obligation to buy. Purchases support the Blacklick Library. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Ball. Thank you!

Blacklick Related Arts Update!
Library in Grade 2
We introduced biographies to second grade, both in book form and with some of our electronic databases. They were able to choose someone they wanted to learn about and write a couple facts about them. Many of them checked out biographies and we will continue to read some throughout the year.
Music in Grade 2
2nd graders have been playing musical games like “Who Has the Pumpkin?”.
We have been doing instrument activities that have songs & rhythmic patterns to play along with the books “Bedtime at the Swamp” and “Creepy Carrots”. Students enjoyed singing about Jasper Rabbit and doing body percussion for “Splish Splash Rumba Rumba Bim Bam BOOM!”
Art in Grade 2
In 2nd grade we are finishing up our Australian mixed media artwork! We looked at three different contemporary Aboriginal artists and noticed that they like to use dots in their art making. We used ideas learned from these works to create abstract backgrounds. Later, we learned how to use a reference image of an Australian animal to help us draw our own.
